What is this tank graveyard you speak of?

If you follow the dirt path that runs parallel with the outside main road and then up a hill (that also has a path) you will find it (if it's still there).
I think there were pics in our old m1ss1on 1mposs1ble thread? Sorry, too lazy to look it up

Yo cambrianguy! Long time dude! I remember when you first found this place and how awesome it was as word went around about this location. I was looking for your original thread but didn't search too hard.

I still haven't been there...

Heard it's an impossible city for good photography as well. Or at least photographically challenging.

Hey free! Ya, long time. I always thought you'd already been there. It's been whored out a lot. There's a DB entry for it that I created...that might be the "thread" you were thinking of, maybe. Photography wise, it's all dependent on the weather. It's often very cloudy/foggy over there, but that might be OK for light diffusion if you're there in the middle of the day.
The more interesting aspects of this location are the peripheral sites around it.

This was actually my first time inside the City. The place was busy during all of my previous visits. We lucked out by being there during the government shutdown.

What we get from this adventure is just sheer joy, and joy is, after all the end of life. We do not live to eat and make money, we eat and make money to be able to live. That is what life means and what life is for. - George Mallory.

Just to clarify, my film photos were shot with a pinhole camera and Efke 25....which I have never used before, and from what i understand, never will again. I like to play around with film and see what i get. I don't have really high expectations, hence using holgas, pinholes, ets....It's more of a fun thing to me and less serious. I don't expect a National Geographic award any time soon. It's one of the things I enjoy doing in life that doesn't require meeting anyones expectations....With that said, here's my digital stuff. We spent 90 minutes there max. I was more interested in just photographing ANYTHING than getting creative. I usually try to at least get some good compositions in...and this place begs for good composition. just wasn't in the cards on this run....Next time, I guess....

The building across the street with the 3 columns had a bar built in to it. Yes, I checked....no booze.

The bars on the rooftop in the foreground are used to rappel in to the windows from the roof....pretty cool!

Legoland....A little wide angle distortion there....but you get the idea.

The "hotel" actually had a check-in counter in the foyer. Makes sense as this would be an obstacle in a real military setting....

Hope my comment about good photography wasn't taken the wrong. It's just not easy to make raw cinder block buildings look good/interesting to me. I think this is the reason I never went. The buildings are so stark, and not stark in a good way, just devoid of interest. I guess I also find the intended use of this place very melancholy and empty. locations have a strong effect on my psyche. even lost america and all his color magic didn't do it for me.

I just felt that I didn't explain what I was doing well enough. They're pictures, after all.....and they don't look great. I had the option to not post them or explain them better, and I really didn't explain them very well in the first place.
That's the problem with sites like this.....most photographers will want to spend several days out there....catch sunrise, sunset, and everything in between. Everything I shot was in about 90-120 minutes, 2-4pm in the afternoon. Not making excuses. Just saying I have to go back. I consider the lack of interest and the boring, gray walls a challenge, but it takes time to see what the light does where and when. A luxury i didn't have on this trip....kinda par for the course, I guess.

I thought you did a pretty good job Seedy, considering the short time we were there. It's definitely not one of those places that inspires ones creativity. Besides, the explore comes first, the photos are just part of the story.

Whole Lee Crap! Dude, you amaze me and drop bombs out of nowhere sometimes. I suppose I should visit your site more often and look at your pictures more. How the hell did you get that insane sky?

We've got to get together and have a group technique show & tell sometime although I'm afraid you might not have much to learn from me.

Fuck this. I want in. I NEED to see the tank farm. This is bullshit, it is like a blowjob not to completion! Please let me know when is going to happen for IC. I have Mondays and Tuesdays off (which sucks).

Just celebrated the birth of my third girl, an exploration all in its self.

Just so you know, no day is a good day to try and enter this place. Its hit and miss. No guarantees that there won't be a mess of police trainees or SWAT there on the day you show up. You just roll the dice and go. The gunfire will give them away. Sounds like most here have been lucky so far though. MPC's SWAT training course ended in October, but Advanced Police Training continues until Dec. 18th (online class schedule).
