I doubt this guy knows what urban exploring is, but this is a interesting way to get videos of abandoned areas. If I had the cash currently I would probably be doing a lot more of this. Also the second link is from some guys out in Kuwait on the abandoned island.
and I-- I took the path less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.

This could take armchair exploring to a whole new level. You wouldn't even have to do anything, just send your drone out!
Seriously though, this would be pretty cool to use for scouting and checking out locations that are too hard to reach. The sign said "Anybody caught trespassin will be shot on sight" So I jumped on the fence and I yelled at the house, "Hey! What gives you the right?" http://www.flickr.com/photos/evman/
Give it time, quadrotor prices are going down pretty fast as the control boards and logic progresses. You could probably get a setup for a few hundred dollars if you use your laptop as a controller and viewing monitor. Winning is temporary but looking cool is forever! Stay Fresh!

The authorities will never catch me now ha ha ha! I'm curious to how far you could fly one of these things and for how long. They seem surprisingly more maneuverable than I thought.

Depending on your battery size and in a size class in the budget of an explorer anywhere from 10-30 minutes (could go more with a stronger quad and larger battery)
The range is pretty far, really depends on your transmitter. If you want range I would go with a plane as the drone. There are premade boards for GPS waypoints for both planes and Quadcoptors Winning is temporary but looking cool is forever! Stay Fresh!
Give it time. Within a few years, private operation of remote control flight vehicles will be against the law.

10 minutes is on a multirotor is very doable 30 minutes takes some serious effort currently .I am currently in the process of trying to figure out some good spots to take mine.I have had video and control out past a mile although building walls and etc will seriously decrease that. You can get perspectives of places that weren't really possible before.I plan to take mine with me and make another trip out to the ghost town in the east bay.If you can think of any spots that would be good for aerial shooting feel free to shot me a message.
The forum RCGROUPS has a ton of information on RC in general and has a specific section for multi-rotor craft. There is quite an active POV group there as well. It was the first place I saw POV flight. Neat stuff.

An old English mansion through a drones eyes with a surprise ending. I'm thinking about getting one of these soon for POE recon, plus I love hobby vehicles/contraptions.
