|  | | | Tried to find some historical info on this defunct tunnel (particularly why it was closed down) but I was coming up dry; I figure even if I did find some info on it, it would probably give away the location though..
Anyway, really dark and not too much to see, so pics are slim, but it was still a super fun excursion!

The weird thing about this one is it seems to have been built as a pair with another tunnel being right next to it which is still in operation. None of the other tunnels on this line have a second twin tunnel next to them though so it's kinda weird :?

I tried to get in this one with pga once, and failed utterly. He went back a second time and said it's a helluva climb. Ugh, I really want to see that Girafa from the inside.

Thanks man, yeah, definitely one of the most physically demanding spots I've been to as far as getting in and out -- I doubt I'd ever try this one again haha, I literally almost got stuck inside!

Another possibility is that it's unsafe/unstable, but I kind of doubt that with the very active tunnel right beside it. This hill has been blown up and dug to bits and there was once another railroad tunnel that ran through it before a fire and partial collapse.

| | | | That's right. The line originally split just south of this location. The tracks that ran through this tunnel turned westward north of here, ran through another tunnel that was demolished 30 years ago and to an industrial area where they connected with the original main line.
Great job making it in and out! I scouted this one but my cautiousness won out.
