| | Magma Mansion < on 10/16/2013 5:14 AM >
| | | Haven't seen a thread on this location before -- it's very well known in the local area but I have found not too many people outside the immediate area tend to know of this one: Magma Mansion (Don't want to put the local nickname because a quick google search already brings up plenty of location information)
Construction on the mansion began in the 1970's, using Hawaiian "magma stones"; however, construction on the home was never completed. Some say the owner abruptly changed his mind and halted construction suddenly, claiming the design would deem it unlivable -- while others say the "magma stones" used in construction were either too costly to import, illegal to import, or even that they were cursed and caused the death of construction workers. Whatever the case, the unfinished home has remained unfinished for decades, attracting many travelers to enjoy the labyrinth of pathways which take you around the property, all while being able to soak in a multi-million dollar view. One of my favorite spots 1

| | | Dope! I saw some photos from here quite recently but I didn't know exactly where it was. I do now and it's gone straight on my list of places to visit.

| | | Nice!
What we get from this adventure is just sheer joy, and joy is, after all the end of life. We do not live to eat and make money, we eat and make money to be able to live. That is what life means and what life is for. - George Mallory. |

| | | The true story is the during construction, the contractor deemed it unsafe to live in due to the possibility of a landslide. I need to get back here sometime...I only live 15 mins away. SOURCE: I used to party here in high school and my local paper had an interview with the owner.

I wouldn't worry about that. Not with the way you've been kickin' ass and takin' names. You should get a little world by your name in no time.

| | | Here's so more photos from our trip: 1. This is from more-or-less the center of the property, you can see the remains of the house's foundation on the left, and the grounds on the right
2. Chillin' in the hot tub...
3. These towers were cool, and I think the original plan was to have those stone stairs also be a water fall
4. Wide shot of the towers:
5. Going for a ride in the mine cart...

| | | Stopped by here on a really foggy afternoon this summer - couldn't see any view of the bay that fog was so thick, but it made for a very eerie explore. I'd be really curious to see the blueprints of this place. I cannot really see how this would have become a house whatsoever considering the landscape.
