Cleverly disguised as responsible adults
| | Where Time Stood Still < on 10/7/2013 7:58 AM >
| | | First opened in 1898 by a native of Genoa, Italy, this "General Store" sold everything from food, to dry goods, tools, and even has a persimmon tree out back (word up to the Italian homies)! When it closed in 1971, it was under the assumption that it would only be for a "few days". Unfortunately, a few days stretched to weeks and due to illness, the store remained closed indefinitely. The last remaining relative lives nearby and the store is now used as a museum. 99% of the items seen here are original to the store in their original locations. The other "1%" were sold by the store and donated back. Our docent Joanne, was a sweetheart and so informative
If you visit (appointment only), don't forget to sign the guestbook and please donate a few bucks. Thank you
The question is not when are we gonna stop, It's who's gonna stop us? |

| | | Very neat. There are definitely more than a few gems in that place. The newspaper in particular stood out to me; that's an amazing piece of history. I'll have to stop by on my next trip up north. I hope to see your names in the guest-book! Thanks for sharing! [last edit 10/7/2013 8:27 AM by Austtie - edited 1 times]

| | | Nice pics, great piece of history. There's a place very similar to this in Spreckels close to where I am, but the old lady that runs it, who's family were the original owners, strictly forbids anyone to take photos of the inside.
What we get from this adventure is just sheer joy, and joy is, after all the end of life. We do not live to eat and make money, we eat and make money to be able to live. That is what life means and what life is for. - George Mallory. |

| | | Wow, that is a great place. It's awesome that they kept all that stuff in there, so much history and greatness. Would love to check that place out if I ever go back up there. Thanks for sharing!

| | | Thank you for sharing those pics! The fact that the location is the same as it was when it was closed gives it a feel that no museum could ever duplicate. It's reality not staging. I love old Americana.
