This is one of those places you drive by everyday.
Right in plain site but so drab and lackluster that it blends into the background and goes unnoticed.

I don't know the whole story but I can read between the lines enough to figure out what took place and the desperate plight the tenants faced during the winter of last year.

This piece of land is located on a corner. There are about 4 houses and a few run-down trailers placed in a row. If you view it from google earth you can see just how close it is to the main drag of the city. Less than a mile from the mall, and just steps from liquor stores, nail salons etc.
BUT..... when you walk through the area (in total about 2 and a half acres), you can't help but feel completely isolated from the outside world.

Vagrants have moved in.

I wonder about the former tenants that have all since moved away, leaving their trailers, furniture, clothes, & children's toys behind.
Although the state requires the property owner to relocate and compensate tenants, it has been almost a year now and so much was left behind that it leads me to believe that these people either had no place to go, couldn't afford a different mobile home park or that their trailers were too run-down to relocate safely.

What I DO know is that the John Stewart Company (property management specialists) was retained to wear these people down into submission and with a motivated property owner eager to seal the deal on a 85 unit apartment complex/retail space, the tenants were FORCED out when all power was cut 10 days before Christmas.

There were complaints from neighbors and business owners regarding the new project and parking availability (85 units worth!), crime rates (the new building will be section 8), and the fact that the plans depicted the complex as being painted like a circus tent.
It was decided that each unit would receive 2 AC transit bus passes for 40 years and there would be 24 "secured" bike spaces. I suppose that was the solution for the parking complaint. The colors were adjusted and the plan was approved.

Remnants....

Thanks for reading.

You shouldn't have put your damn graffiti stickers all over. You really ruined the ambiance.

The picture with the wall paper makes a trippy optical illusion when I scroll over it in Chrome.

Nice site, fascinating location!
