you all may be familiar with the HORRID "reality" television show known as "cheaters" well - i have dated, on and off again, one of the people who works on the show. it is "shot" here in the DFW area so one time last year she asked me if i could think of a good place for them to shoot the annual halloween episode. i said that they should go to the old swift meat packing plant here in fort worth and so they (we) did. upon arriving i notice they had their entire fucking crew in tow - about 20 something people - mad lights, microphones, strobes etc etc.
they proceed to make more noise than even i could have imagined they would all with their lights blaring in all directions calling full attention to us from every street within a mile radius. it baffles my mind to this day how we were not busted on site but somehow they entirety of the scene was done in less than 15 minutes and then everyone split. i hung around in one of the buildings afterward to check and see if any of the crew had dropped their shit or left some expensive piece of equipment behind and sure as shit - there sat a mini cam just waiting to be stolen. i should have just kept the fucking thing for myself.

I'm surprised it only took them 15 minutes and even more surprised that you guys got away with it. Based on how you described it, I am assuming that the location was used without permission, which, from a legality standpoint, is kind of crazy in and of itself. There could have been A LOT of legal problems for everyone involved. It could have been really bad. I am glad you didn't get burned for trying to help them out.

Ok, here goes. Sometimes I'm the problem. I know...it's hard to believe. I tend to get a bit grouchy when I'm really tired, or I haven't eaten and my blood sugar is out of whack. Not that I'm a total bitch, but sometimes I do get a bit short tempered.

Of course there is something to be said for finding exploring buddies that you are compatible with. There are a few of us that run in the same circles and most of us get along pretty well. Usually if there are any personality conflicts we break up into smaller groups allowing everyone to have a good time. Seems to work pretty well.

Overall though, I really like the mine exploring community. (And I cook well enough that usually let me go along.)

I know I'd be ready to throw down at a moment's notice if I was addicted to being a fuckface.

This is seriously the best thing I've read on this forum in years.

I've been pretty fortunate in this regard. I travel with a group of more "mature" folks (40's/50's) and the biggest issue we have are a couple of folks who tend to wander off. Finding them again while trying to stay stealthy can be frustrating at times. Especially if we're hangry (hunger that's turned to anger) or in need of a beer.

I've also been pretty lucky as far as this type of thing goes. If anything, I'm probably "that guy" in some cases because I'll crack out on getting THE shot, aka spending a long time taking multiple versions of the same shot. If the lighting in the building is awesome and it seems safe/like there is no reason to rush, or if I am light painting, forget it. I may be there all day/night.
Typical example:

"Um, J, the afternoon storm is moving in and we need to get out of here NOW"
me: "okay, just a minute" (or ten......as I am walking backwards and trying to take pictures at the same time. d'oh!)

All jokes aside, if it's a serious situation, then I am out of there.

There was one exploration where another explorer and I were going to a location that was completely dark from being boarded up, had been classified as an EPA brownfield, and full of rusty metal.

I was quite shocked when he showed up wearing 1) shorts and slip on shoes, 2) had no tripod, 3) no respirator, and 4) no flashlight.

We did not explore that day. Don't be that guy UER explorers.

My only friends up to exploring are loud as shit or are high and always wear shorts and don't even bring water. No explores with security for me I guess.

I always wear waterproof hiking boots and have three or four flashlights but in the summer I always wear shorts and I don't own a tripod or a respirator. I guess I shouldn't go exploring any more. Damn.

My brother did that shit once on the worst moment possible. Ah well, he still lives.

Oh btw, he's my BEST exploring buddy ever. This was an unplanned explore during a family vacation

I'm glad you've had good experiences and lived to tell the tale.

I'm not against individual choices people make. But being woefully unprepared in the instance I described above would have most likely led to injury. At that time I didn't want to be around if/when it was going to happen to that other explorer.
