Anyone have urbex suggestions for Scandanavia + Eastern Europe??

I am currently in Norway looking at graduate schools for cave science (long story, but they have free tuition) - and am planning on taking a combination of trains/hitchhiking back south (I need to eventually return to family in Germany). Due to an unpaid fine in Denmark (I was caught riding the wrong train without a ticket) I have to avoid that country or risk paying a now increased fine ...and will instead be taking the long way around through Norway (back through Oslo in a week from now), Sweden (Gothenburg and Stockholm, where I have friends), Finland (yes I know I need to take a Ferry) to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland... beyond that, my fate is uncertain but I will either end up back in Germany directly or take more time to go south through Hungary... or who knows where... I don't even know...

Anyways, enough of these crazy plans. If anyone has any suggestions on urban exploration sites that would be on my path or urban explorers who would meet up with me (sometimes the whole urban exploring alone thing gets a tad bit unsettling, although I certainly have done it!) please send me some details, and I will promise photos in return, or cookies (not sure how those will turn out through the mail, but I can try, unless you're Danish ). I particularly am fond of tunnels and old forts, eclectic abandoned factories... things like that, but whatever you can think of, let me know!

As a caver I have a full set of caving gear with me - helmet, lights (2), harnesses (2), ascenders + descenders, etc (no rope though) so there are all sorts of options if anyone is willing to go with me

Many thanks and happy exploring!

There are heaps and heaps and heaps and heaps of places to explore around Poland. I go there every year and there is always new stuff to explore. Surprisingly there is only one main drain in Warsaw, which is also the original one that goes under the Old Town. Last year this drain was finally accessible, as normally it had an iron gate that was blocking the entrance. It is a redbrick balloon drain and certainly worth checking out for the history alone. You will find the entry at the Wisla River edge across the road from the Old Town. It's a simple walk-in.
In Lodz there is a drain museum which costs the equivalent of about 1 or 2 euros. You will find this drain museum in the main street of Lodz - www.muzeum-lodz.pl...ctical-information

The rest of the stuff to explore is topside stuff. There is seriously too much to mention here. However, all you need to do is get in a train and ride around, particularly in old skool industrial areas of Silesia including suburbs such as Bytom, Myslowice, Chorzow, Siemanowice, Ruda Slaska. These are more like regions than suburbs actually. What you will mainly find is disused coal mines, factories and warehouses.

Use Google Earth to search around. I'm serious, there is a megaton of stuff in Poland all over the place.

If you are in the area of Germany around the border of France and close to Luxemburg, then I highly recommend creeping around Volklingen and Saarbrucken. Major, major industry.

Agree, you can't get bored in Poland, there's so much to explore out there.

I did a bunch of exploring in Bosnia when I was there. Cool abandoned houses that have been left but still have owners somewhere else, a bombed out castle that someone decided to turn the courtyard into a sculpture garden. The castle is still in its dilapidated shape, and has some pretty cool spots for climbing.

I was mostly up near Bihac.

The only caution in Bosnia would be to watch for signs about mines. Some of the fields have mines left from the war. I wandered in the mountains one day to an abandoned house and realized on my return it was a danger zone. :-/
