| | | Why would those menaces to society do such a thing, that's so irresponsible and dangerous. They should be doing, like, boring stuff instead.

| | | I found this article yesterday and thought it was pretty interesting. I'm surprised this could be a thing at all in Edmonton. http://www.edmonto...8755621/story.html

| | | That's so incredibly irresponsible, I'm pretty sure they got a jolly good hiding the next time they went on the internet.

| | | I used to BASE jump. Most jumpers are like explorers and go to great lengths to avoid burning a site. It's just a bad deal for everyone involved. To make broad, wide-sweeping comments about BASE jumpers in this regard is no different than viewing all of you with the same brush of the organizers of large, organized URBEX parties (i.e. 300 people at a concert in an abandoned NY subway). A very good friend of mine was carried out of a canyon and driven an hour away to a hospital with some extremely serious injuries because he didn't want the heat coming down on the site from a helicopter evac. Maybe it wasn't the smartest of moves in retrospect, but he was NOT going to be the guy who ruined the site for the rest of the community. With regards to the cranes, if it wasn't them today, it might be you tomorrow. They have as much of a right to be there (none) as you do.

| | | Not butt-hurt at all - just trying to provide some perspective from the other side. Some BASE jumpers are attention whores that would burn the best sites in exchange for getting their face on the news. Unfortunately, the same personalities are in this hobby.

There's a big difference between going somewhere and not fucking up the location for others, and going there and bringing a lot of attention to it causing the security to get tightened. It's really common sense, especially if you'd like to go to a place again, why shit in your own nest?
It requires wisdom to understand wisdom: the music is nothing if the audience is deaf. |

| | | I had a look, it is wired pretty tight now, thick bundles of camera cables coming out at the base of the crane, security regularly patrolling it. I didn't actually enter but I suspect judging from the location of the camera cables the roof might still be clear. I ended up doing the crane across the street.
