Hey Team,

Been a long time since I've gotten out to urbex, and as such, it's been a while since I've posted photos.

But going for a road trip in Canada this July allowed me some much needed urbex time when we took a wrong turn to Castlegar and managed to stumble on this wicked place.

As per usual, no holding back and rip me a new one. The only defense I have is that these were taken largely in super low light and I forgot the tripod so I had to handhold.

Enjoy, and my Flickr is http://www.flickr.com/photos/keirenmac/ in case you wanted to check it out.

#1 little dark, some lightroom shadow therapy might help it

#2 totally cool chair. I think the only thing that saves it from "OMG ITS CENTERED" is that it goes off to the right a bit, thus not quite centered.
I like this shot!

#3, could pull the shadows out a bit, bit I like how busy it is. Lots going on in this image to just sit and look at it for a bit to see everything.

#4, boring shot BUT the pretty mountains make up for it (I'd assume this is what you were taking the pic for to begin with..mountains?) Then that makes it cool to show the location of the site.

#5 again, pull the shadows out just a tad.

#6 might have got a little more sky in above the mountain top. Really pretty view though! Maybe bring up the whites or exposure just a hair..seems too "dark and yellow"

#7 way cool! I might have pulled the highlights down a little and brightened everything just a hair. That way it still keeps it dark, yet you aren't squinting at the pic.

Nice job! Looked like a really cool site and beautiful country/area.

Thanks a lot mate for the feedback. In regards to #1, 3, 5, and 7. 1 + 3 particularly. This is already after I've brought the shadows up a decent notch, and anything else is mostly just shadow clipping. I did take 3 exposures of almost every shot in there, but since it was handheld, even after alignment they reduce sharpness by just enough that I don't want to use them. I definitely agree with them being a little too dark. I honestly made them that way slightly because after I had brought them up it had washed the shadows to greys, so I bumped the dark levels back to swallow them up (as there was no information in there anyways).

#2) Everyone else seems pretty happy with the chair, I'm glad you like it, I wasn't sure I was going to post it though based on what you said, but chairs are always pretty

#3) After I brought out detail it turned into a semi-interesting shot, but beforehand it was super super bland, lots going on, and it is just garbage. I wanted to convey the hectic-ness of the place.

#4) Exactly I wanted an almost silhouette, but that just swallowed it too much, hopefully this is a nice balance of detail and nice mountains

#6) I agree completely, the sky was cut out as I was doing the splits on that slime! There was a piece of glass on it I thought I could stand on so I could lean over the green stuff and try to center the rest, well my foot shot out to the right and I was holding myself a good 4 inches from being covered in it. But you are completely right, I should have held it just a few degrees up to capture it as it now feels really claustrophobic.

#7) Again correct, that one is just shitty picture taking on my part and I cant do too much to bring the flare back as that's already smaller than the original.

Thankyou so much for the comments!

I know exactly what you mean sometimes on pulling the shadows out and it starts to wash out..so you need to keep it dark to make it not look like crap. Been there done that many times. It sucks, but sometimes it's better to just roll with it as best you can than to not post it at all. It was still an enjoyable trip to see this site via your photos

Looking at them all a 2nd time after reading you comments... still good work and I liked it all

Do you have a particular way you like to fix that? I use levels, but black black makes it look awful and waaaaay too dark, so I just push up the shadow clipping slider a smidge (like 4 points) to make the darkest tone a not quite black level.

Do you go about this a different way?
