Not a big fan of to much HDR and second pic is a little off, but keep at it. And dont take anything on here to heart, they slam my stuff here all the time lol

Agree about the hdr. Especially in the first shot. There's no need.

Aside from the overcooked HDR, I like the first pic. I'm not going to comment about the second one.

I think the big problem with heavy-handed HDR here on UER is that you are showing these pictures to people who are very familiar with abandonments, not to mention photography and post-processing... who know that no freak of lighting, nuclear irradiation, nor passing bus-full of vomiting clowns will render a scene that looks even remotely like that in reality.

You show these to average grandmas and layfolk and they might be mesmerized by "the incredible colors!" and the "incredible details!" Yeah, incredible.

The question remains: do you want to impress the ignorant, or those-in-the-know?

I really enjoyed your first shot. The shapes/geometry are well balanced and the colours are vibrant and rich. However, the HDR can be toned down a bit because it looks like a really processed digital image that has been manipulated to give it a very digital look.

The second shot is not as good as the first because the geometry is not well balanced. I don't really know what to focus on and my eyes are lost without a focal point (mainly because of the tree in the background). Secondly, the HDR is waaaaay too strong.

Cheers and thanks for sharing

I'm not going to continue to beat the HDR horse, it's been said and you probably get the point.

Subject wise, the first one is fairly interesting and I like looking at it... It inspires a sense of mystery: I want to know what is behind that broken window! The second one on the other hand is a tad boring and feels like it's more for documentary purposes.

Other than that, depending on if you're using lightroom for post-processing I'd just recommend toning down the colors and bumping up clarity a little for the second picture.

Thanks for the critiques, much appreciated and I promise in the future to tone down the colour and brilliance of the photos. That said neither one of these photos is HDR, they are just one image. I used Nik software colour effects glamour glow and brilliance and warmth to produce the vivd colour. Dtewsacrificial is right in regards to granmas and layfolk, people like something that goes beyond what the eye sees. I know I am far from the best photographer in the world and I still have much to learn, however I have sold several photos across North America and all the photos were were surreal " incredible colour " and "incredible detail" as dtewsacrificial put it.

Rashomon, thanks for the advice about geometry it`s an area I know I need to work on, I often shoot with a friend and he is for ever telling me to move a foot to the left or right and continously tells me about it....so thanks for the reminder!

I have been a lurker on this site for several months really enjoying the photos and skill of some of the photographers on this site. I`ll continue to post photos here for critique as I value your constructive opinions..... cheers Shaun

True this isn't actual HDR then (overlapping multiple exposures), but it is still "fake HDR". You did the same thing as running it through a fake-HDR filter. I'm not going to critique the photos, but I thought I'd throw in a little advice. Don't try to make your photos exceptional during the post processing part. When you're exploring take your time and really look for even just one exceptional scene and take your time shooting it from different angles and with different exposures and just try for one awesome photo (in camera). Then your post processing is just icing on the cake rather than trying to make a pretty normal shot into something it's not.
