In February, DtEW, Spacetimecurvature and I took a trip down to the Mojave, Salton Sea & surrounding areas. Have to apologize to them for my taking so long to start this thread. We hit most of the "usual suspects" between Barstow and the Salton Sea. My Flickr set has 40+ photos. If you'd like to see them all, they're here... http://www.flickr....72157633171293415/ Below are a few of mine from that set....
This is a classic example of why I keep going down here....obviously a newly abandoned, pristine trailer. Hadn't been ransacked yet....

Great shots, seedy.
It was a great road trip, and an introduction to a different type of abandonment photography than what I often do. Much less stressing, and more about simply letting your eyes find the details and forms. Almost a kind of meditation. And finally discovered an appropriate use for mass-market light beer! Will be doing this again.
I've already posted some of this stuff in A-Photo-A-Day, so please forgive the repetition. At least now there's context.

Great set! There's so much to be seen in that direction, definitely a nice area for a road trip. Thanks for sharing! https://www.flickr...otos/97773368@N06/

Thanks. I love it down there. I've all ready made 3 trips this year. the first 2 were 3 or 4 weeks apart in January and February....definitely a better time to go than June.

Very nice images and explore you guys. I need to get my ass down there this fall. I like the Kyuss reference in the title as well, that album is fucking incredible.

I always mean to take a drive out there and photograph the sign that's on the album cover. Kyuss/Brant Bjork/Nebula/Fu Manchu are my go-to's when driving around the desert. If you want to make plans to go, let me know. I'm always game if I have the time off!

Hell yes, I'm down. I'll PM you with more details and my availability within the next couple of days.

I was down there last month and was "kind of" escorted out of "Moron"....I looked in my rearview mirror and there was a white SUV behind me. I pulled over and he just stopped. I took that as "get out"....and of course, the waterpark is currently off the table as well. But there's still plenty of other things to see and do.

Seedy, did you shoot the ones with the vignetting a Holga? They have a good expired film feel to them.
Dtew, the store photos are rather creepy and I like the amount of DR in the trailer photos, very good. [last edit 7/26/2013 9:14 PM by boosted302 - edited 1 times]

Yes sir, Holga. I've been trying to shoot everything with both my DSLR and a holga lately....especially down there where there is so much color and contrast. Not expired film, jus classic holga light leaks, overlap, etc. I like to do double exposures, multiple exposures, etc....purposely create 'mistakes." It will be interesting to see what I get out of the batch I shot down there a couple of weeks ago in 100+ degree heat.

Damn fine set you two!!! I keep hoping you'll ask me again to go on one of your adventures to the desert. You asked me once before, but I wasn't available then. Maybe I can go with you & Decrep when you go. The Rebel Urban Explorer

when you were in the port-a-potty shed did you see a family of pack racks, i went in there and about 5 rats ended chasing me out. Good set, i need to make another trip out there after summer is over. Nothing would ever change; nothing new could ever be expected. It had to end, and it did. Now in the dark world where I dwell, ugly things, and surprising things, and sometimes little wondrous things, spill out in me constantly, and I can count on nothing

The last time I was welcomed to Sky Valley I left as the Demon Cleaner...
Great shots!
I bet the trip was as fun as getting the explores. Travel with pals exploring is the shit.
Off topic, I'm haven't been really happy with QOTSA since the red album. Makes me miss the real Kyuss even more. "By the prick of my thumb something wicked this way comes..." "Under the cover of night, I travel across rooftops while you dream of adventure."
