UER forum rookie questions

Mornin' guys!

Still discovering how this website works and have a question concerning the forum itself.

I kind of got the most part of it, but am not sure between UE photography vs Regional UE.
E.g. I shared some pictures yesterday in UE Photography but could have put them in "World" as this was located in switzerland. Since I am willing to post several other shootings I've done, I was wondering whether there is some kind of "rule" between those two forum parts.

Think of the photography forum being more about the photography and the regional forums like World being more about the locations. Since there probably aren't many explorers in Switzerland, you're probably better off in the photography forum.

Cheers mate !

Yeah I saw that the large part of the community is from North America If one day I fly there for couple weeks, it will be a real headache to choose what to visit ^^ !

Don't knock Switzerland. I never got through my to-do list there.

You mean your UE to-do-list or "official spots" ?

If UE, maybe I have this "syndrome" that people know the least where they live (every time I get back from holidays, I see myself amazed by the region I live, and I never really take the time to discover it).
One thing here is that you need to be quick to explore. Beyond couple known UE spots, it is quit rare to have long-time (meaning more than 1-2year) empty/abandoned places as the m2 is expensive.

That said, I am not saying that Switzerland is boring for UE ^^!

I'll share some other spots in the upcoming weeks (see already my post about a brewery, added yesterday)

As a real Rookie, I continue on this thread for other questions concerning the forum

Even if disconnected (and cookies removed), I have access to all threads in the forum (e.g. the two location photos I published this weekend). The forum shows the "Unavailable, please log-in to use" star, but it is actually very available. Only responding or creating a new thread is unavailable.

So, is this because UER is keeping my IP and recognizes me, or are all these threads really public?

Whether they are public or not, my real question is about the photos we share. As usual, on nearly every visit some pics give more info than others on the location. How should I choose the pics I share?
For example in the brewery thread (http://www.uer.ca/...=1&threadid=109873) I have some cool pics with plenty of bottles, a lab room with bottles from other brewers and notes etc. Would these photos be ok to share, or is that already to much of an info (of course, I understand that once a FM, I can put the real location in the DB as not public, so it would be save, but here I am really concerned about the forum and its "publicness").

Same for the Old Ghost town thread (http://www.uer.ca/...=1&threadid=109893). I put only very narrow-view pictures not to show to much, and when someone asks me about the story, I give it but I don't give the exact dates, neither the village name. Am I doing it right, or am I really kind of too "strict" ?

I'm not 100% sure if I got this right, but as a basic member you won't get to see any private content. If you receive full membership there are private forums and the ability to make your threads private. I'm not aware of any content that is okay for basic members but restricted for non-members.

There is also the option for a moderator to make one of your basic member publicly viewable threads (one you created or just one you commented on) into a private thread, in which case you would still have full viewing and posting privileges.

Everyone has a different standard, and it's agreed on mainly by the users in that region. Since there aren't a lot of Swiss users, you're probably free to make up your own rules. A bit of discretion is still good because you never know what things will be like a few years in the future. I'm careful about writing out the names of places, but if it's just in an image, it's not searchable on Google, so it'll have to be someone actively viewing the pictures.

There are loads of explorers in Switzerland and travel to the rest of europe is as simple as jumping on a train for a few hours

It's just that this forum doesn't have many Swiss members

Oups, wasn't maybe very clear, sorry!
As a basic member I understand that I can't see the private content.
What I don't understand is that people who are not members (not even basic members), are still able to see all the non-private threads in the forum. (e.g. when I go with the computer of my parents on UER, I can see all these threads, even as non-member).
So I was wondering about this "Unavailable, please log-in to use". This means that even non-members can see all non-private threads, they can just not answer or create new threads. Is that correct?
