Rookie Questions
< on 6/30/2013 5:48 AM >
Posted on Forum: UER Forum

Okay, have a few questions before my first outing.

- What shoes are best? sneakers? low cut boots? Steel toes?

- despite the horror stories, how prevalent are meth labs and other more extreme hazards?

- Are photos of all old building welcome, not just abandoned?

- what lube is best to use when getting raped in a drain?

- will I get a weapons charge if I carry a maglite?

- 1 cigarette or the whole pack?

- Are photos not related to UE appreciated/enjoyed?

- summer heat: shorts or long pants?

May have more later, appreciate any help.

Depends on the site. Are you more likely to be climbing fences or walking on broken glass?

What's a more extreme hazard than a meth lab?

Posted by RandomAccess
- Are photos of all old building welcome, not just abandoned?

Photography of old active buildings isn't UE. They may be nice, but this isn't the site for that probably. I can think of numerous exceptions, such as before pictures, active infiltration, or looking out a window of a relevant site though.

- what lube is best to use when getting raped in a drain?

If the rapist is considerate enough to wear a condom, go for a water-based lube.

Posted by RandomAccess
- will I get a weapons charge if I carry a maglite?

I'd be extremely surprised, but if you use it to beat the hell out of someone you could.

Posted by RandomAccess
- 1 cigarette or the whole pack?

Smoking's a bad habit.

Posted by RandomAccess
- Are photos not related to UE appreciated/enjoyed?

As previously mentioned, there are sub-boards where they're allowed, but with notable exceptions, no.

Posted by RandomAccess
- summer heat: shorts or long pants?

I've always considered basic leg protection to be very important.

1. As Steed said, it really depends. What situation are you going to be in?
Will you be in the sand? surf? high grass? mud? shit? snow? walking on glass/nails/caltrops? Your footwear really depends on your environment.

2. Meth labs are relatively prevalent. I've found several. I'd suggest that the only thing more dangerous than a meth lab, is a meth lab that's being GUARDED by armed methheads... Or really any drug operation being guarded by people on or off drugs; because they tend to be extremely unreasonable.

3. I post all kinds of photos on here. If you can find the right part of the forum, post away, just try to make sure it's in the right spot.

4. The best lube to use when getting raped is... any lube at all. Bonus points if it's the kind that doesn't give you an infection.
What you need to really worry about is when they're inconsiderate enough to rape you WITHOUT lube...or using your own blood *as* lube....

5. Depends what township/county/state you're in. I'd suggest you check your local laws and try to ascertain this for yourself. And remember: only you can prevent forest fires!

6. Depends if you're smoking them, trying to quit, or eating them.
If you're smoking them, smoke em up!
If you're trying to quit, don't smoke any.
If you're eating them, for example, as a method of getting rid of intestinal worms, then you shouldn't eat more than 1 cigarette per day till your worm problem is over.
If you're just handing them out to hobos, the 2 or 3 should be fine. You don't wanna look like a total 'baller who's got a whole pack to snag.

7. Refer to 3. You're really intent on taking non-UE-related photos aren't you? If they have boobs/ass/female-nudity in them, you're pretty well guaranteed to get by on here with them whether they're "UE photos" or not. Otherwise just post accordingly.

8. Don't be a dumbshit. Wear pants.
Unless your other option is a skirt, and you think you might end up needing to sex something up; then you have to weigh your pro's and con's.

Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

OK! Thanks for the information! As to the photos, I have already taken and like to take landscapes when I'm out kayaking, which is why I asked. Did not know you could eat cigarettes for medicinal purposes, that's cool. As to the pants, it tends towards high 80's low 90's and very humid here in the summer and heat exhaustion and that sort of fun thing are real threats as well. As to meth labs, they are the one thing that really worries me. Are they typically manned when not in use? Are there always obvious signs of them before you're in danger of dying in various horrible ways? What should you look for on the exterior of a building to figure out if it contains one? Couple of new questions now.

- Ever had someone try to steal your shit? (camera, lights, etc)

- Is there a reason there seem to be relatively few explorers in Florida, or is it just of, not idea, some states are more active than others?

- What does a meth lab look like? Know it whe I seee it kind of deal?

Again, thank you for all this help!

you've never heard of Flurbex??? .... Do your homework.

I've never even been to Florida and I now it's crawling with urbexorz.

Calm the fuck down about the methlab shit.

I can't remember the last UER member that died in a crackhouse shooting spree.
(I also have a really bad memory, so you never know)

People don't usually try to steal shit from guys who are 6'7", and often armed. I can't really help you with that one. Wave your arms and yell? Buy a taser? Bear mace? I think you're a little too freaked out about shit.

Go live your life, do what you want; if bad shit happens, deal with it at the time, don't get your panties all twisted about "might" "maybe" "could" and all that or you'll be a basket case.

I get you, mainly just trying to cover the bases. Only reason I haven't gone yet is hammering out schedules with the other guy(s) is a pain. The one other guy knows the first location I want to hit up so just need to work it out with him. But you make a very valid point, I'm over thinking this a is my habit.

You're doing a great job so far at not being an asshole - well beyond what's expected and accepted here. Wish you luck.
Just remember to bring us back some drugs from all the meth labs and grow ops.

Are you thinking he rapes you with your maglight or so?

In this case maybe WD40 or so, so you don't damage the maglight.

Hmmm, wouldn't WD-40 (as a water deterrent) Cause internal issues? Also Should I arrive pre-lubed to save them the trouble?

(on a serious not) Ricky_from_TV Thank you! I definitely try lol.

We get annoying newbs all the time, so don't take Ricky's statement lightly.

Also, for inserting a flashlight, an oil-based lube would be a much better idea. You could bring along a bottle of olive oil just in case.

To cut right to the chase:

Just use common sense on clothing - long pants, sturdy shoes, and a pair of gloves if you want.

Gear - small flashlight, cell phone, bottle of water, and a small backpack if you want.

Don't sweat the rest. Get out and hit a couple of sites. Once you have a little experience, you can adjust your gear list according to your needs.

I think the internal issues from the WD40 will be the least of your problems.

I find hiking boots are the best all-purpose footwear. Just think of UE as hiking- you never know what terrain there might be, you want to be able to walk through wet ground, dirty ground etc. I would wear shorts if it's really that hot (I assume 80 or whatever in Fahrenheit is hot) just realize you might be walking through thick bushes with prickly weeds and the like. (long socks maybe?)

As for the flashlight, is this the kind that does super-bright strobes and is marketed as an "assault" light or whatever, meant to temporarily blind someone? Or maybe the kind that's super big and heavy, where you can use the handle to whack someone on the head? If so, it's possible that might happen, depending on how wild the cop's imagination is.

The sign said "Anybody caught trespassin will be shot on sight"
So I jumped on the fence and I yelled at the house,
"Hey! What gives you the right?" http://www.flickr.com/photos/evman/

Hiking boot are the most sensible. Steel toed boots however, would offer the best protection from stubbing your toe, walking on sharp objects, etc. I have, however, explored in plain sneakers.

Haven't found a meth lab yet. Risks I've encountered: falling off a roof, getting clothes ripped from fences or nails

I'd still dress in pants. Depending on how urban your location is, you may have to pass through tall grass, weeds, prickly plants and other crap.

I'm sure this has been mentioned in other guidelines, wear clothes you don't care about in case they get dirty or cut

I can't help but feel there was alcohol involved in the writing of that paragraph.

I guess it's understanding though, all things considered.

Glad you didn't burn up. If you had kept a gallon of water-based lube in your car for those random encounters, you could have splooged it on the fire while you were beating it out.

Rum And Coke, like I saida shitty day lol. A gallon? naw I really should carry http://amzn.to/12100SL

Also little disturbed that it was that obvious I was drinking.

Luckily a deputy an a couple of troopers nearby so got a fire extinguisher quickly and got it out, fore dept got called out to finish if off. Car SEEMS to be ok. Seems to have been the catalytic converter.

More on point, full boots or low cut? is full ankle motion useful or is it better to protect your ankles from rolling?

I suppose the best response is...

IT DEPENDS WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

Here, I've got a couple questions for YOU:

1. If I'm going to spend time in the water, which wetsuit do I buy?

2. If I have to drive somewhere, how much gas do I need to get there?

3. How much water do I need to take with me on a trip?

4. Which filter should I use on my gas mask?

5. Which camera should I buy?

Are you starting to get the point?

Use the shoes or boots you like and don't ask what other people are using.

Personally I use working boots with steel toe and steel sole inlay so my feet are protected, I also have no problems walking in these boots for ten miles in hot weather.

This doesn't mean that these shoes are good for you or for anybody else, this is just MY preference.

As said before ask real question that get you somewhere and no question about being raped and such.

For ones they are funny but it gets old.

And yes you sounded like you were drunk, but I am not sure if you were sober in your last posting.
