you could get the NBCR filters, which are for Nuclear/Biological/Chemical/Radioactive hazards and use an activated charcoal layer as well.

Then you could like, UE Chernobyl &&& other cool stuffies. Also for use during the end of the world and zombie attacks.

Yeah so this pops up on here every few months. The MASK holds the FILTERS. The FILTERS have to be matched to the hazards you intend to (or think you might) encounter.

Do your homework. It's really hard for anyone here to say what you might come into contact with that's MORE than just particulate filtration. There's stuff allllll over the internet that tells you about this.

Go DOWNLOAD AND READ THIS PDF FILE.

It will explain everything you need to know. It's very complete and does a great job of explaining things.

*edit*
When all else fails, and you're wondering about something pertaining to safety, look up the OSHA stuff. They are very complete and all-encompassing about *most* of that stuff.

Years ago I worked in a glass factory, and got bumped up to a position where we did the chemical coating process for special glass they make there that is conductive.
Anyway, they put me through an OSHA course on respirators that was two days long. I had no idea there was so much to learn about respirators before that.

The stuff we were working with was extremely toxic. They actually have these bags that go over your head and a container of this stuff they puff into it that is very nasty smelling but totally safe. After doing the other fit-test maneuvers, it allows you to see if your filter ACTUALLY is fitted properly.

Because all the knowledge and time and money spent on respirators doesn't do you jack shit if you don't have one that's properly fitted, or aren't using the appropriate filters. (less of a problem with purely particulate filtration).

If you're just in a dusty place, that's one thing. If that dust is LEAD or ASBESTOS laden, its a lot more important.

And if you're worried about other toxic vapors that can harm mucous membranes, a half-mask only covers your nose and mouth, not your eyes.

Choose wisely.

Just because someone on the internet says "I just use this filter mask and I love it" Well that's great. Does their mask actually fit YOUR face?

Do they go the same places and are exposed to the specific hazards that YOU will face?

You've gotta do a lot of this legwork on your own. The basics are in that manual.

Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)
