Funny moments while exploring.

On this particular occasion I misjudged my footing and regrettably, albeit hilariously fell through the ceiling of a decaying house and cracked a table in half with my back:

I don't ever purposefully vandalise buildings in any manner so this was a fluke that just made my friends laugh at me and left several horrendously deep gashes in my hand where I grabbed for something while falling and only got a fist full of rusty nails

Show something funny or tell us a story about some of your comical misadventures.

oof, be careful out there dont become another news article. houses aren't built like large complexes, watch your footing.

few years back a tunnel system to a hospital somehow got an infestation of deer, was chased down a corridor a week earlier so the next time I was on guard. had my flashlight pointed about 100 ft away and saw the reflection of 2 eyes staring me down. took me about 5 mins to realize it was 2 neatly placed beer cans. defn had a laugh about that one.

Not so much UE, but late-night hiking.
Was walking with my girlfriend through the woods, and we saw an inflated balloon tied to a tree. My girlfriend took her knife out and was going to pop it, and I yelled "NO!".
Used condom. Luckily, she stopped in time and we laughed about it, glad to avoid getting sprayed with lube and bodily fluids.
We pass by that spot every once in a while. It's still there, deflated now.

Actually a few weeks ago, I was exploring an area that had several abandoned houses and a barn. I was walking toward the last house, and spotted a deer. The deer and I had a stare down for a few moments, and then she started coming towards me at a decent clip (not running, but not cautiously walking either).

I turned around and walked back across a fallen fence. As soon as I got there, the deer stopped on the other side of the fence, looked at me for a moment and then walked off. Needless to say the deer won that round.

Below is a photo of said deer.1.

New to UER but I've been exploring for a few years. Here's the one that I wish I could have been a 3rd party witnessing ... well, me.

I'd been exploring and photographing for four hours, an old cement plant, (since repurposed as a first-responder training facility.) As I was coming down to my entrance point, I noticed a propped open door. I opened it, *peaked* inside - when all hell broke loose. The LOUDEST ALARM EVER.

I WTF?!ed and hightailed it out of there. I went to the exit point, jumped down, and ran down towards my car - which was on the other side of a barbed wire fence. #@$! Should I leap over the fence? (Shyeah right) Hide? No, run back! So I ran back, jumped up and ran across where the actual exit was. I was huffing and puffing at this point, with klaxons blaring above me (probably for miles, and next to a military base). Despite being a chicken with it's head cut off, I made it to my car and scrammed, all amazingly, without getting busted.

Two "exits" across from each other. And why the @#$! was that door propped open and yet alarmed? I thought I was going to have to ask that to the judge.

I was in a barn with two of my friends and a barn swallow nest was inside. I was looking at the cute little baby birds when one flew out and crapped on me. I was really not amused but looking back its hilarious.

Dang. Well good to hear that the only thing broken was a table (although I'm sure that your back was sore the next day), lol.

My last misadventure was during the exploration of an abandoned dwelling. Vandals had already had their way with the place and I had to try and hop over a large dresser that was blocking the exit at an awkward angle.

I managed to get one leg over the dresser but when I tried to get my other leg over I slid and that other leg bashed into a corner of the dresser: square on the shin. I thought I was going to pass out, straddling this dresser, lol. The pain was intense but I continued on for a ways, snapping photos.

My lower leg hurt for the next few days (I had a large gash on my shin) and then I took a closer look and my foot and ankle were black and blue, with bruising all over my foot and moving into my toes. I thought I had broken my ankle but it turned out that the trauma to my shin was bleeding underneath the skin and due to gravity the massive swelling and bruising was pooling down into my foot. The bruising has started to subside (some left on my inner part of the foot, the bottom of my toes and on the bottom of my foot). This happened 3 weeks ago and the bruised black/blue/yellow gash on the shin is still raised almost 1/4 inch.

And I thought that when I had my chin pierced for a labret hurt!

Before that, I was entering an old farmhouse and had to step up about 3 feet into the open doorway. I put one foot into the doorway and then heaved myself up to get my other foot in. Then came the pain. Turned out that I had torn my quadricep muscle (partial tear). The swelling, pain and bruising lasted about 3 weeks. But, I still managed to walk the building and get some great photos.

Along the lines of your "through the ceiling" mishap, I did have one incident where I had made it to the second floor of a large old barn. After checking the flooring for discolouration (especially green or black sections that are signs of rotten wood) I ventured further to get some cool shots.

One side of the barn was no problem so I moved to the opposite side. Camera in hand, I walked carefully to an area I wanted to photograph. The floor boarding creaked, I stopped, the floor boarding started to give way. If I had remained standing there for another second or two I would have landed in a cow stall 16 feet below me. But I managed to quickly backup before I went through the floor.

Along with some minor cuts and bruises, I was exploring another dwelling in a basement area. Because the floor was cluttered with boxes, garbage bags and other debris, I had my headlamp and penlight concentrated on the floor: didn't want to trip. In doing so I didn't see this large piece of drywall hanging from the ceiling infront of me (if was pitch black in there).

Needless to say, I hit the drywall with my head and it came crashing down on top of me with bits of wood. No injuries but it scared the cr*p outta me, lol.

I'm always very careful at locations but there are always unforeseen perils everywhere.

My shin/ankle injury.

I don't consider it a successful explore if a pigeon doesn't divebomb my head.
