| | | Eleven years ago, my friends and I ran across some other explorers while inside an old asylum. Both parties were startled. No big deal. Yesterday morning I went to scout a rural spot, and came across two coyotes not too far away from me. My car was half a mile away. They ran off, and I later read that they're usually not a threat. Spooky but kinda cool too. Exploring often rural areas, my only true fear is coming across a meth lab and not being able to escape fast enough...

| | | Not exactly scary but too close to a LOT of trouble... After a nice but boring drain exploration with two locals explorers... - Did you heard that (location withhold) was accessible ? - Sure, want to go. - Ok but let's get something to eat before.
While driving to the restaurant we hear on the news that they just found the body of a homeless person... right in the location we were going to visit... After that, the &?@!*@@ location was boarded... For the full members... the location... still boarded http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=29664

| | | I've never really had any scary moments. Back before Capehart caught fire in 2010 I explored it, and while looking around there were two or three teenagers tripping on something bad. They were more freaked by us than we were of them. Then at my first explore of Homestead we were in the basement looking around and heard a voice. We were the only ones there (that we were aware 0f). | | | Not so much scary as weird, but back in high school I used to go check out different areas of a large cemetery in the area at night. I was in an older section one night around 11 when a candlelight procession walked past, dressed in black with hoods. They headed around a mausoleum and I lost them. (yeah, I tried to follow after giving them a small head start). Probably just local goths or something, but was still odd. Technically it is closed at night, but you still saw joggers in there after dark, I don't think anyone card as long as you weren't drunk or kicking over gravestones.

| | | Mine was more a cross of scary and being oblivious. Going on the first bigger exploration, a friend and I headed to an abandoned coal mine. Getting our way through forest to the back of the place, we suddenly creep up to two guys dressed up as Belgian special forces oogling the place. We were looking at ourselves with a big WTF all over the face. Trying to stay cool, something finally dawned to me, shouted over "Hey, airsoft?", and the answer came "Heh, yea." In retrospect, probably should have been obvious, but running into a cop exercise wouldn't have been that impossible, even in that place.

| | | I ripped my pants hopping a fence yesterday. I really liked those pants. One time I ran out of TP in an abandonment. That was pretty damn scary. Thank god for socks.

| | | Lets see... 1. Walking out of an abandoned K-Mart in broad daylight, just in time to see a cop with his gun drawn screaming at me to get on the ground. Apparently whoever called the cops mistook my walking stick for a rifle. 2. Chased by wasps, angry raccoon, and one memorable occasion, a pissed-off pigeon during various trips to the same train-yard. 3. Caught a double-barrel full of rock salt in the ass while trying to get into an abandoned one-room schoolhouse (the real horror was the next morning when I got in the bathtub... apparently I became Jesus for a moment; I was definitely walking on water). 4. Was exploring Waverly Hills TB Sanatorium and heard a blood-curdling scream coming from a different part of the building. Probably a screech owl, but given the place's reputation, I didn't stick around to find out.

| | | Scared the crap out of myself and friend when we just entered an abandoned zoo. We both had just started to move stuff and say something to each other when you hear a computerized voice. We didn't know what it said, but we heard it. We stopped with the deer in headlights look just staring at each other and finally decided we would cautiously continue. 5 minutes later we heard it again...... "GPS Signal lost". We felt like idiots. Now we make sure that all technology is off or on silent with exception of walkies. Lesson learned; mild heart attack suffered. | | | My scariest was when I was exploring an active location (hunter's camp, weird hangout of graffiti artists, and hunters, and stupid kids.) It was my first active location, though I had no idea until I wandered inside one of the makeshift buildings to find a recently-made-bed. I had been trying to find a half-sunk baby carriage I had been told was in that swamp the camp bordered. After confirming absolutely nobody was there, I took pictures. Right around the last 'tent' I heard a very loud scream. Though it was probably nothing, I ran for my life. I'm going back on Wednesday. (I'd go today, but I've already visited four locations today. I'm gonna take a rest. XP) The one that was scary only due to suspense was a house in St. Joseph county. It wasn't active, and that was the surprising part! There was no sign anyone had been living there in at least 40 years (there were magazines in there dated 1960s, if I recall), and all signs suggested they had just picked up and left. There was still paper towel on the rack. Seems it was a deliberate result though (or very thoroughly stripped.) The toilet was ripped out, the fridge was empty, all mattresses were gone, and bedframes were turned on their sides.

| | | One night I was doing some Recon on a place I had been exploring for quite some time trying to find a easier way in. Out of no where a car drives up to gate and drives in, totally oblivious to me and my friend standing on other side of fence and our car in the open. We never bothered trying to find a shortcut after that

| | | I was exploring an abandoned restaurant way out in the sticks when I tripped an alarm. It was really startling as this was my first time ever having an encounter with a security system. I was a with a friend and luckily he was already starting his car by the time I got out. We didn't end up getting in trouble and it was definitely a learning experience.

It wasn't so much fleeing as stumbling backwards in the dark towards a third story door-to-nowhere as the demon bird tried to scratch out my eyes. Those bastards can get pretty territorial, especially in a confined space.
