Ever had a scary encounter at a location before?

I'm relatively new and I've only had a couple of run-ins in buildings before.

The first encounter was with a group of 7 or 8 kids (all between the ages of 11-16?) who were harmless but extremely irritating when I was trying to take photos in an abandoned hospital in MA. The kids followed my friends and I around for nearly 20 minutes. They were breaking glass, kicking everything around, etc. They also kept screaming from different rooms of the building trying to scare each other and I had to leave before the security man I saw driving around earlier in the day showed up.

My second encounter was at an old burnt down building that I go to often because it's right down the street from where I live. It's so far into the woods with no driveway that I assumed I'd never run into anybody there. Last fall while I was there with one other person, a hunter walked up to the house while we were inside of it and yelled at us for trespassing. He was dressed head to toe in camouflage and was holding a crossbow while threatening us. We apologized and told him we were just trying to take a few photos before we ran back to my car.

Luckily my only encounters were relatively harmless.

I want to hear your stories and how you dealt with them!
Hobos, druggies, security, police, etc.

Will never forget the sound of a man racking a shotgun behind me and yelling "you have 10 seconds to get out of my sight before i blow your f***ing head off". Happened in an abandoned house just outside of Edmonton, it was demolished last year, and its one that I definitely wont miss!

1.
Ghettokumquats and another friend of mine explored an air force base, and while looking through the Children's Center, I walked through to the bathrooms and a pipe made a massive grunt sound. Which everyone heard. While I was exiting the building I looked to my left to see the other door closing, and we immediately searched the whole building, and no one was there. We reset the situation and were not successful on getting the door to close again...

2.
While on the same trip, we got near the on base hospital, which we knew was bugged. My other friend (first time explorer) and I saw the security truck, and walked behind a stairwell to avoid being seen. My friend walked clear around the stairwell and I turned the corner to see his head directly underneath a motion sensor. So I grabbed him, and ripped him around the corner. I eagerly, and slowly peeked my eyes around the corner to see if it was blinking. Immediately it said "Please lay your security ID card on the ground and wait for assistance!" Now we both were shocked and thought it had said "Please lay on the ground," so we booked it to Ghettokumquats who was waiting for my dad to pick him up to go an use the restroom, but we screamed "Hold on!" and dolphin dived into our getaway car, a Honda Civic.

3.
Another time, Ghettokumquats and I were exploring a very difficult location, and the sheriff helicopter showed up after we avoided being seen by a boat. I jumped between a barge and the tire that keeps it from bumping into the dock, and tried to not fall into the water, and to not be seen. We then booked it into the closest room we could find, the women's restroom (oh the irony!) and hopped from cover point to cover point, since we knew dogs could be released. But we called our driver, who said that no gates had been opened. So I climbed on top of the building to avoid the razor wire fence, and GhettoK couldn't get up onto the roof. He handed me his backpack, and threw himself over on to the roof (what a boss!).

I was in hotel in Ohio with someone else. We were there for about 30 minutes. We walked around the entire place and were sure nobody else was there, when all of the sudden, some guy walked around the corner carrying a hacksaw. Luckily, he was just as scared as we were, but we still left soon after. That place has been busted in the past for containing meth labs.

1. Whilst exploring an old school, my ex-boyfriend decided to take his time and it was nearly 2 in the morning. There was a car driving down the road, and it stopped and entered the property. I have never hidden so fast in my life. Spotlights turned on that I had no idea where they were and guards with flashlights ran through the property one guy was only a few feet away from my hiding spot, before continuing. My ex was slightly an idiot and got caught running off into the trees, but they couldn't find him afterwards and thought it had only been him. I was terrified, and I continued exploring after they left (I'm an idiot)

I'd call it a mix of resourcefulness and prioritization.

I went into a chemical research building that I heard about with two other friends. We were just about done with exploring when my friend decided that he wanted to go on the roof.

So, I'm finishing up my last few shots when my friend calmly returns and says "We need to leave...now. We've been spotted." I'm dumbfounded because the location is far away from the road and essentially in the middle of nowhere.

So we quickly discuss where we should leave, looking out the windows to see where this man is. While looking for a good three minutes, we see him disappear into the roads and seemingly leave.

So just as we exit the building, a man in camo gear, holding a gun starts shouting at us saying "This is private property and we hunt here. Get the fuck out of here or else we might accidentally shoot you!" He then proceeded to lift up his gun.

Naturally, we ran.

Another time, I was exploring this old hospital when we begin to hear people talking in the building. Seems like another explorer so we cautiously carried on with taking pictures.

That's when we looked out the window. A pick up truck was parked on the side of the building. The roads leading up to this place were not publicly accessible and were blocked off.

The voices got louder. We panicked. We couldn't run, it'd create too much noise. So, we hid in a closet for what seemed to be like forever. After the voices got much more muffled, we bolted as quietly as possible.

Just as we made it out of the building, I took one last glance at the building and saw a police officer looking out of the window down at me.

So we ran to our car and calmly drove off.

Finally, I was exploring this card factory in a rich area. We finished up exploring and calmly walk out. As I drove off and past the place, I saw several cops surrounding the building looking for us. Whoops.

tldr;
Story 1: Got threatened by a hunter who said he might "accidentally" shoot me if I don't leave.
Story 2: Hid in a closet for 10 minutes while property owners looked for us.
Story 3: Cops came to the building I was exploring shortly after I left.

Sure thing! Even if you leave your friend to get eaten by dogs, at least you explored the rest of the building!

Back in 2010 I was in the southern Korean city of Busan. I was there for a soccer game with my friends who were all supporters. On the way to the stadium I spotted an abandoned neighbourhood on the side of the road. This:

After the game, I suggested to three of my friends we go back there. One was extremely drunk from pounding his special mix of soju and Powerade all day.

At one point we went into a church, and as we went up to the second floor we ran into a squatter there. I backed everyone up and we left without incident. We were on his territory, so it was fair for us to get out of there.

After I got back to Seoul, I heard that just two months earlier, at a different abandoned neighbourhood in Busan, a young girl was abducted, raped, and murdered by a homeless sex offender.

I'm still not afraid of the first homeless guy we came across, but knowing how close our situation was to stumbling upon a real major crime gives me a bit of a fright.

He came back eventually! He found me in the gym and didn't look impressed but he was the dumbass who ran off and nearly got us caught. Do not regret the fact hes an ex. He sucked at UE. Always broke things and I'd give him shit for it and didn't bother taking him after a few times.

I was in an abandoned hospital complex at sunset looking around and then I heard voices. I looked out the window and I saw 10 guys dressed in black, wrapping black fabric around their faces like masks. Then they started pulling baseball bats and hammers out of their backpacks. I assume they were just there to break things, but it was still scary being a female alone in the situation. I hid for a little while and they came into they building, but they quickly left and I think they moved on to one of the next ones. I hung around for a little while longer because I didn't want to leave after just getting in, but I left soon afterwards.

Once I ate an entire can of vienna sausages my friends found in a closet of the Lizzie Borden house in Fall River, MA. The date the can was forged said 1942.

I never do like being outnumbered on site. DJCraig, Avius, Pezking, and myself and my girlfriend were in a textile mill. We'd gotten somewhat spread out. I was just headed up some dark stairs from where my girlfriend was when I saw some motion. I turned off my light and looked. Eight people. Sketchy people. I went down the stairs (In the dark) and went out to meet them. They weren't so bad, but they weren't good either. Later they were breaking stuff, so we left. They had parked inside the fence, and the gate was locked. I wonder how they managed to handle that.

The other times have been slightly alarming, but I can't call 'run faster than security' or 'Run faster than the drain flood' scary, really. Time management is key, there.

Now that's scary. We can encounter, or almost encounter, some odd folk in these buildings. Glad it turned out alright for you.

My first scary time, well it wasn't actually scary, was when I went to an old abandoned farmhouse in the middle of the night. It was dark and very quiet. As I went about taking photos (and being flash blinded) I heard and saw the old lady that used to live in the house standing in a doorway: she wanted to know why I was in her house. I only had a little pen-light but didn't point it towards her: I could see her just fine. Then she was gone. The house has been empty since she died (1995) but I knew her name and the history of her family.

The only other scare was in a large abandoned cattle barn (that was very silent) that I was exploring when a barn owl flapped it's wings and took a nose dive towards my head before flying off out a roof opening.

Lol, ghosts and owls.
