| | | I found a cheap-o Raven .25 auto in a storm drain. It was at a spot in the drain where, at some point in the past, a homeless person had stashed a bunch of junk. I called the police, some cops came out, and I gave them the gun. They didn't care that I'd been exploring the drain.

Aren't there weapons laying about everywhere in the U.S?
|
You really should reconsider coming to the US Doug. We issue handguns to the tourists so they don't feel left out.
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. |

| | | Posted by junkyard Greg Brick found a weapon one time that was a terroristic threat. There was a picture of a helicopter on my old website. I know that's a bit convoluted, but I can see how Greg was in fear of his life that the chopper would come off the page and get him. Or maybe that I had a fleet of them and I had my own KISS Army to fly them over his airspace and engage him in a battle if sifts, where he would certainly lose.........dickface.

Absolutely! My friend came in from England for a bit of mine exploring and Therrin made sure he was properly equipped for the job. Can't let 'em walk around nekkid. Heck, most of us have a couple extra handguns laying around just in case we have visitors.

As far as finding "weapons" while exploring... do explosives count?

| | | Well God damn Therrin! Got much access to explosives there? Exploring mines is kind of a unique environment, this stuff we just don't run across on the day to day in the cities asylums and mills and such. What precautions do you need to take being around that stuff? I would be afraid to even breath on it. Love the shot in #3, looks like you're building a campfire.

Don't step on it!!!
This may sound funny, but it's so true. The ground is often a pretty close match to the color of a stick of dynamite, and by nature in a mine, is rocky. There is usually loose rock and other debris scattered on the floor that you walk over, which often hides things that you *shouldn't* be walking on, so you have to pay careful attention to where your feet are stepping, while at the same time trying not to ram your head into the ceiling =P Blasting caps are usually scattered all over the floor, dynamite is a bit easier to pick out based on the shape, but caps are pretty small. Best advice is DON'T TOUCH IT! Finding coils or lengths of fuse cord is fun, but often can have a blasting cap spliced to an end. if you're looking at a piece of fuse and it gets a bit fatter at one end that looks like a small cylinder about the size of half a cigarette, it's probably a blasting cap. The powders you usually only know what they are cuz they're in bags that say "Explosives" or actually what they are, like the ANFO or some Type B. TL;DR version: DONT STEP ON IT, DON'T TOUCH IT! =) **EDIT** Do what I say, not what I do. hehe. [last edit 1/5/2013 6:51 AM by Therrin - edited 1 times]

hehe. I've found quite a bit of bullets stored in the wall of this one place, and plenty of knives around construction sites.

In Finland, arming yourself for personal protection against people or animals is illegal. If you're caught carrying a firearm for self-defense, you will lose your possession permits and guns for good. Fortunately we don't really have any dangerous fauna around here, except that lion in the 1990s... It's not that I really want to carry a rifle with me everywhere I go - it's just additional weight and generally something that's always on the way when I'm doing something - but I just don't have a choice. I'm not ready to become polar bear fodder just yet.

| | | No actual weapons, but I found a tire iron in a kitchen drawer. Decided to carry it around because there were bullet holes in the windows and I didn't want to stumble upon a psychopath unarmed. Word of advice: Don't carry a tire iron as a weapon if you're easily startled. I ended up putting a hole through a mirror when I looked up and someone was coming right at me with a tire iron.
