Not trolling, just what trends I feel exist from lurking forums in the past few years:

USA
I've seen very little since the big sites like Beth steel, Eagle river PS, The Lab, Florida Door, all the Kirks, etc. However there are some which standout in my mind:
- ulive smashing the golden gate
- the usual suspects in nyc doing what they do best
- the Boston guys absolutely demolishing their city
- some amazing underground spaces being uncovered in cities previously underexplored

Canada
- Other than Toronto rooftops, and some AUMC whispers in BC I've seen little from Canada that compares with the explorations of ~5 years ago (Niagara PSes, Enwave tunnels, Montreal/To drains/sewers turning up gold constantly)

Western Europe
Filled with HDR obsessed, gas mask wearing, theatrical photoshoot, slider slapping photoshop bandits. Probably the most active region in the world these days, with an incredible number of decay tourists. The trendsetters living in this region have been venturing further east (Italy, Hungary for example), looking for new terrain and escaping the overshot, overpopulated urbex icons of Belgium. That's not to say there isn't great exploring in western europe, but it's very very explorer dense. Good chance you'll run into someone carrying 3 tripod, 2 bodies and 10 lenses and 5 gasmasks.

Paris still offers much if you know where to look, and places like Spain and Portugal still attract the bold willing to spend time hunting new sites without promise of reward. Coal industry in germany is also quite popular.

London
Since the big tube busts the scene is far less vocal and less active but things are being done if you believe the rumours. As expected though some big things happening from time to time if you're on the right forums or talk to the right people. Far less is posted openly online, understandably.

Rest of the UK
A few big things come to mind (nothing I would discuss outside the members area of certain forums sorry), but the glory days of Burlington, Longbridge, crazy sewer systems turning up in every city seem to have passed. The 'proleague' of manchester fame is still active but you'll not see 1/10th of their efforts online.

Eastern Europe
Where some of the most epic and impressive of recent explorations are occurring. If you're not tuned into the right places you are missing out on seeing some of the most ridiculous explorations ever in my opinion. Russia and Ukraine, sweet mother of god.

Australia
CaveClan has gone underground and posts very little outside of private channels. Rumours abound however of big things being done. Many other small exploring groups popping up, many with a penchant for photography and spinning steel wool.

Otherwise
- gasmasks, gasmasks everywhere
- people keeping their big finds and new locations close to their chests
- explorers venturing farther afield in search of new locations

Of course I am not on every forum, nor aware of every single thing explored recently and am therefore happy be to wrong about all of the above. I'd love to hear that there are a shitload of epic things being explored that I am unaware of. So, what did I miss?

Thank you for this. Very informative, well-structured update. I love that folks are still trying. I don't like to disparage n00bs and welcome their explores of places we've seen before--they haven't seen them, so it's new to them. Are there more houses showing up in the US explores? Would make sense w/the housing crisis. I'm going to have to give a try next week when I'm in NE Ohio, see what I can find.

There you go bitching again, be quiet you!

BTW, there is nothing better than Four Locos, and cheap whiskey mixed with Dr. Pepper for exploring.

That's not bitching, that's just being a grumpy old drainer. You become entitled to be slightly elitist the bigger your UER star is

Most of my explores are houses, just the fact that it was someone's castle is both emotional/fascinating to me.

Someone told me that Av sold the rights to UER, wholesale, to a Discovery Channel documentary.
True? Not true?
Do I get royalties? Do I? Do you need my bank account and social security number to make that happen? Shall I post them here?

BC is waking up thanks to some brutal research and overcoming the depression after most of the big stuff got the wrecking ball. I'd expect to see more out of here in 2013.

Any directions for EE? I'm headed to the Caucasus this summer, with luck.

Things are happening on the West Coast, but most are rarely shared. I guess they got sick of seeing locations busted up &/or burnt to a crisp. Understandable.

MSP is where it's at now. I don't know how recent this trend has been, but
ho
ly
fuck.

NYC has construction going up for days, so there's plenty to keep us busy here. I've always told myself that I'd travel more once I saw most of what my city has to offer, but it's too damn big.

lets get some opinions, is it entirely possible that:

A. eventually you just run out of things to see

B. the risks become to great, where it would not be worth losing a job over in your older ((and wiser)) age

C. the big name sites in your specific region have been blown up, over posted, leaked to public threads, talked about w/ the wrong ppl, boarded up, way more secure and watched then they were before, etc. etc.

D. Like the great BB King once said: "the thrill is gone".

just some thoughts...

I think A. is absolutely false - the world is too big, and places are constantly being built and abandoned.

B. is probably the #1 reason people slow down.

C. Just makes it more of a challenge, really, and is why people post less.

Gotta be open-minded about where you can possibly go, though. There are probably hundreds of places that no one's even thought of trying before.

well I don't mean to open a can of worms on your thread here, but why the hate for instagram? Granted there are SOME people who literally explore JUST for the pictures, and that is sad to me because its like exploring with a selfish motive and not respecting the place you're in. Is that what bugs you guys? I use instagram and have found some awesome friends there who explore with me and value my photography, I don't use the filters lol
I also don't take 'selfies' to post while I'm on explorations which some people do

you know what, I think I just answered my own question, nevermind!

RescueMe: Good thoughts. Response...

A. This happened to me for a while, then I just expanded my horizons to active infrastructure, rooftops, construction sites, cranes, semi-active facilities, and started looking statewide. Now my list is so long I don't even have time to come near doing it all.

B. Also considered and is applicable. I'd sure like to do the Golden Gate bridge and the suspension side of the Bay Bridge, but I've reached my limit on risk with those two and determined I am not willing to take it that far.

C. Not applicable in California IMHO. Just find new big name sites noone has been to. More research required. I thought this was the case for almost 2 years, then would do some deep digging and come up with massive jewels, some abandoned for 15-20 years and then torn down only months after we found them.

D. Yes definitely. The thrill is gone for little/easy shit. It takes much more to interest me now.
