My 1st thread, introduction and ironworks explore!

Hey this is my first thread here. And well my introduction, here it goes... I'm a dude who likes urban exploration (ever since I can remember), probably for the same reasons you all do, and this website is awesome for having a place for all us ect ect and I look forward to sharing my explores and getting to know and maybe explore with some of you guys (I'm from Illinois).

Anyways ill tell y'all about my most recent expedition (although not my 1st). So I blew off band practice (lead guitarists are drama queens, i needed a break from him haha) so I could be with my GF and explore some stuff. So we decided to go to the old Joliet Iron Works. Mostly just foundations but pretty badass none the less. So, being as crappy as I am with explanations, ill just post the pics I got, and yes next time they will be better because my friend who sucks at photography (was only there to drive us because we didn't have a ride at the time) took some of em for me (only the 1ns i was in, the rest i took). But without further pointless rambling here ya go:

1. This was on the other side of the tracks, an abandoned factory I'd like to check out sometime, although its most likely got some junkies living there, but if I can get a team? I'm go.

2. An old remnant of a building by the tracks, some shitty tags on some of it but still cool.

3. Some more foundations of the old iron works factories which by the way, were built in the 1800s and lasted till the 1930s when they shut down.

4. An old smokestack foundation.

5. Yeah there's some tunnels!

6. Some basement level foundations.

7. Some cool tunnels we explored next time ill get some interior shots of em although they were pretty straightforward tunnels.

8. Being as stupid as i am, i almost jumped off the edge of this platform to freak out my GF then found out it was a few stories down and was like oh shit and pulled back haha. And we also found out all the tunnels lead back to the other side this platform... Sort of.

9. More overgrown ruins

10. There were these old stacks went really far into the ground and when you felt over em it was really warm and had a pretty nice smell, like laundry.. It was weird but cool

So yeah sorry if I was somehow repetitive with pictures but yeh. And hopefully I was able to give ya an idea of the place. It's pretty cool, and I'm going back soon because there was more I wasn't able to get to before it got dark in the not so good side of town (it's only risky at night, during the day it's fine and this spot is pretty left alone anyways). And there is a lot more cool places I plan to go to soon to like around a national lab, by there there's some old abandoned structures in the middle a nowhere, and there's a lot more in The area 2.. If any1 is interested in exploring more in Illinois with me, hit me up.

But yeah, look forward to meeting/talking to some of you guys and I hope my thread wasn't too bad for my first haha.

This is very true. There is always a way. If I can assemble a few people to go with me (maybe even some dudes on this website) then ill definitely go for it, because its a sick place and very historical and cool and all to.

On the advice: will do, thanks for letting a newcomer know.
And the evidence keeps pilling up to say I'm going to go for this spot sometime in the near future. That would be quite the photoshoot I imagine.

Yeah it was pretty weird. I know I'm not crazy cuz my GF noticed the same thing. I mean I'm not exactly sure what the original use for em was and they went pretty far into the ground so who knows?

Welcome to UER!

Not bad for starters. Seems like a good kickstart to the hobby...but as mentioned, the UER uploader is garbage. Even if you disable pop-ups. It reduces the image quality more than any hosting service I've ever seen.

If you want responses, use Photobucket or flickr...the uploader here legitimately scares people off.

I don't see a difference in image quality between TheFoxs' re-loaded images and the original ones (aside from the annoying pop-ups being gone).
Do I have poor resolution on my computer screen, or am I missing something?

Hey guys, I think we're all aware that one of the locations being discussed in this this thread does not belong on UER. Have some respect for location preservation.

EEK!
Too much info leaked!

Check out the bullet points on this thread.

"""Finally, some of us are petty and possessive about the places we've busted our butts to access, and have seen some really great locations descend into ruin after word about them got out. We get LOTS of people coming through who just want a cheap thrill without putting in any effort, and it gets tiring after a while."""

Read the forums then explore, then...maybe..MAYBE, post

Amazing pictures!

You are forgiven for name dropping because it was a rookie mistake. I'm sure that a lot of people here (including myself) have made that mistake at some point.

Check the lines. The UER uploader makes them choppy and jagged. The colors also go down but not nearly so obviously.

As for name-dropping. The only thing that stopped me was a while of lurking. I too trusted the community at first.

Edit: Fourth fuckin edit. Don't post while drinking.
