Just explored my first location, super basic

I wasn't sure where to put this, actually, but I ended up deciding to post it here coz it's my first building and the building is suuuper basic anyways; doesn't really count for a real hit. But it was a great find nonetheless.
I was walking around near Richlandtown, which isn't exactly a huge town but I was nearby visiting some friends and we ended up talking about exploring buildings and they'd mentioned a building they found ages ago and had been in quite a bit. So we decided to check it out.

This was looking in through the first entrance, the first way in we'd decided to go. unfortunately, most of it was blocked by a weakly-nailed in board. I snapped a quick photo through the little hole and ran off to catch up with the rest of the group, who so kindly left me behind to go round to the main entrance. The main entrance is the doorway visible on the other side.

This was taken right in the doorway of the main entrance. Behind me, people used the oddest stuff to try and block off the front. I think I climbed over a vacuum, a lawn mower, and I know I stepped past a broken weed wacker because I remember being irrationally worried it'd suddenly start up and chop off my foot as I climbed past, hahaha.

Inside, it was pretty much just a single room that is clearly used just as a hang out.

This looks at the majority of the room. Out of frame to my left is a fire extinguisher, fun fact. One of the people I was exploring with ended up picking it up and asking us, "Do you think this works?" while squeezing the handle. Let's just say, I've never seen a group of guys jump so violently. Extinguishers are freaking LOUD.

The main entrance where two of my favourite graffiti pieces are; the spilt milk that says "Don't cry for me," and to the left, a guy in a blue hoodie, white pants holding a raised gun with the words, "Up in arms over nothing..." next to it.

Finally it was time to head out. We ended up moving the weakly nailed-in board away from the now-exit and slid out. For such a basic first time, it was really interesting. exhilarating too; i loved it--I love it, especially now that I got a good taste.

It's a shame I didn't think to grab a picture of the building itself or the tons of signs warning passerby away. Off the top of my head, I remember seeing five 'keep out' signs, all what looked to be handmade with spare wood and spraypaint. Only one official notice was posted saying "building under video surveillance." But we didn't spot any cameras on the inside. Light fixtures missing light bulbs, yes, but cameras? Nothing visible.

All in all, it ended up feeling like a good day. It'd be great if there were more locations nearby that I knew of. This and the unused railroad nearby are just teases now, small things compared to the bigger, more fun locations

Nothing wrong with "super basic" for a first location. You would laugh if you saw the first mine I went into. About 100 feet straight back to a dead end, but that start has lead me to some amazing places. Hopefully your start will lead to some amazing future explorations too!

Looks like fun! I'd like to see an exterior shot of this place.

You should ditch the thumbnails though and post your pics full size; other than that, great first post!

I'm definitely going back one of these days to get a good exterior shot; we always left too quickly for me to stop and get a good shot. I wanna get a shot of all the keep out signs too. It's kinda funny how seemingly desperate people are to get the idea across that you shouldn't go in when really it just screams a good adventure.

It's surprising to find out how many of my friends actually are into UEing but don't know it by its name, so they never know what I'm talking about when i discuss it. But apparently somewhere nearby there's an abandoned hospital and a slightly abandoned house not too far from me. Looks like I've got plans to make

It could be spelled either way if you're using it as a name. In Resident Evil, Michelle Rodriguez's character's name was Rain without the 'e'. I just like the 'e' on the end

Welcome! Good starter place, super tagged industrials with big POEs are virtually worry free. A good way to get used to this.

A few pro-tips to help assimilation. The pop-up image uploader is virtually unused, most people can't stand them. You can uncheck that option while uploading but to be honest, the entire UER image hosting option is low quality and flawed. Flickr or even photobucket will do you better!

That and this is the internet. It doesn't matter how interesting or well put your writings are...most people will overlook alot of text

Keep it up!

I was in a bit of a rush so I didn't think the image through very well, and I had no idea thumbnail things weren't too favourable; thanks for the tip, haha.

And yeah, I could've done without too long a story. I'll have to remember next time I post XD
thanks!

The light in there is great, you could get some amazing shots with a tripod.

It'd be better if I had the camera I've got my eye on instead of the little digital I'm working with right now. I'd definitely work with a tripod to get more impressive shots with the kind of camera I want. As soon as I get the money

I'd go for the tripod first! Very inexpensive for a pretty decent one, each $30 tripod I buy lasts at least a year. I also feel the improvements getting a tripod yielded me were greater than when I got a five times more expensive camera.

It would definitely improve my shots. Even for it being a tiny little digital, I'm sure it's got lots of potential. I'll definitely have to bring along some sort of tripod next time I go 'splorin

A-ha! After a bit of google searching, I've finally discovered what the building is. Or was. Either way.
Apparently it was a factory some 40+ years ago. Ended up finding the information in the comments section of an article about a woman who was found dead in a "field" (it's not even a field anymore. Weeds and shrubs are way too overgrown) right next to the building.

"The burnt-out factory is covered with swastika and pot leaf graffiti and people go inside to drink and shoot up drugs. The owner boarded it up and people keep breaking in."

"Old-timers around here mentioned that a lot of chemicals were dumped on the ground there in the distant past, easily 40-50 years ago."

Both of these comments were from December of 2008.

Pretty interesting. I still can't see how a building so tiny could be a factory, though.
Also, I'm getting some exterior shots whenever the hurricane blows over. I'm worried the roof of the building might've gotten damaged by the winds... it looked pretty weak last time I was around, and with the high wind speeds and all the rain...

I know the feeling :] I currently shoot with a basic Powershot. I love the thing and it gives pretty impressive photos for a point and shoot, but sometimes my tripod makes all the difference. I've got my eye on an expensive camera too, so we'll have to share shots when we both get a nice DSLR.

Updating with ext. shots that are long past due. Not the best shots I wanted because of a ton of kids nearby (damn them all!) and it was freezing, but here they are nonetheless.

This is walking down the road the way I usually come, as you approach the building. The sign there partially blocked reads "Premises under video surveillance."

The front part, which was in better condition the first time I stumbled upon this building. The front has a sort of ledge that you've got to step up onto, that used to initially lead into the main entrance but is now blocked off by a ton of crap, making it near impossible to get into that area.

Like I said, pretty basic building. Generally small.
Hope the pictures show, coz they aren't cooperating with this piece of shit computer...
