| | | One thing that I find helpful for focusing in the dark is a laser pointer. You can get keychain ones cheap at most pet stores. Depending on the scenario and the surface, sometimes the dot can be easier to focus on than something in the glare of a flashlight. It's also good for focusing nighttime exterior shots using available light, where you don't want to announce your presence to the whole neighborhood with a flashlight. I don't know if your camera will shoot in RAW or if you have a program to edit RAW images, but being able to adjust white balance and specific colors after the fact can help get rid of the weird yellow (incandescent) or blue (LED) cast that flashlights can unwelcomely provide. My other advice would be not to let the challenge of shooting in the dark overcome the importance of good composition and other qualities that make a good photo. With the possible exception of #3, these images wouldn't be very interesting even if you had better light to work with. [last edit 9/19/2012 11:10 PM by ahhntzville - edited 1 times]

Arntzville.... You're a magician and I love you. Otherwise, great shots, I like what you did with the flash light and the feel of them is moody, not over-processed, just nice in general. If you wanted to light more up (I wouldn't, they're rocking) then use a flash or expose for longer and paint it up. A lot of DARK places I have been we end up going 15+ seconds and doing stuff like:
But that's more for silly effects rather than just getting the mood of the location which I think you did well.

Agreed. As far as tips go, the laser pointer is a great idea. Remember lower ISO and longer exposures and use a tripod. This will lessen any noise to great degree.
