Bracing myself… ok, go.

1.

Il était une fois // Once Upon a Time…

2.

El Tio, Squat du Sud

3.

Le Mur de Broches // The Wall of Pins, Squat du Sud

4.

Happily Ever After

All images were taken on my Nikon D7000 with my 8mm samyang lens (which I know isn't my sharpest… but I'm nervous about taking good lens underground). The first image was taken on a different shoot than the the rest, and maybe I should have paid more attention to keeping the lumiere values the same as it's clearly out of set with the others.

Very cool pictures! I've had the chance to visit those tunnels some weeks ago and I was really impressed.

I don't know what to tell you other than that these are extremely cool. But what's with the face in 2, is it shopped in?

Nope... it's a mask of El Tio, or "The Uncle" in Spanish. He's near the front of mines in Potosi, Bolivia, the idea being that God and Jesus can save you on the surface, but underground you have to pray to the devil. You're ment to leave him offerings or alcohol, cigarettes and coca leaves (hard things to find in Paris). He appeared on the walls a few weeks ago, but he's slowly moulding and deteriorating. I presume he might not even be there anymore next time I head back.

Really unique, really cool

Also. You are a superb light "writer", that script is so clean for a bloody torch!

Great Job!

Great Job!

It's just a small LED torch light, it's got six separate LEDs. I thought it might not have been the best to use as I thought it might diffuse the line too much, but as you can see it came out pretty clean.

On picture 1. I wrote it backwards from behind and got a pretty clean look, then on 4. I did it from the front pointing backwards as I thought I would be able to write it cleaner without needing to write backwards. Then of course I just ended up illuminating myself. I could have taken the photo again from the back, but I kinda liked me in there... gave it a sense of reality. With so many images photo-shopped these days, it adds some authenticity to the image.
