"We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be..."
| | | Confessions of a bunker addict < on 7/30/2012 9:18 PM >
| | | I wanted to see if enough time had passed to be safe from incarceration. Indeed it had! MUST, GO, BACK!!! I stopped by here today after work. (a whole two mile drive!) Next time I go here, I think I'll try the buildings on the other side of the road. Aaand, maybe I'll get some night shots, and again in spring when all the weeds are green. I, just, can't, seem, to...quit!!! 'Cause I don't want to! Enjoy, and feel free to add ANY of you own bunker pics. 1.

What we get from this adventure is just sheer joy, and joy is, after all the end of life. We do not live to eat and make money, we eat and make money to be able to live. That is what life means and what life is for. - George Mallory. |

| | | Great shots! Be careful at these ones... I've seen a few people in cuffs right around that area on several occasions.

| | | wow TRUE, you are officially packing a very large set of balls. This is practically in our backyard and I still won't do it. A lot of this place is still active and are not kind to "visitors." Bravo man, good job!

It was quiet out there. Nobody but me around, and a few cows. Well, I did poop my pants a little when the Army chopper flew over. I used that as a que to get the fuck out of there before they sent a patrol to the location.

Thanks for the compliment! The empty seals have the address on them, so I couldn't post them. The date for the check & seal is 7-11-11. I drive by there all the time for work, and haven't seen a single patrol. With them being empty I think it would cost too much to "actively" patrol the area. The Navy left the inner site a few years back. When the Army took over operations, they started emptying and sealing them. If your smart, park and walk would be the best. I was lucky really, when I parked out front. I can't wait to go back and finnish this one up! Thank you for yor concern. It doesn't go unnoticed.

When in danger, when in doubt, RUN IN CIRCLES, SCREAM AND SHOUT!
| | Re: Confessions of a bunker addict <Reply # 13 on 8/25/2012 1:42 AM >
| | | The Army actively uses just a small portion of the site -- this portion has been operated by the Army for years, it's just that when the Navy basically moved-out, the Army became the federal agency that controlled the whole place. Parcels being transferred over to the local city for redevelopment has been in the works for years. I haven't kept-up with it in the past 2.5 years or so, but some parts may technically be city or country property now. I think the key is to know what property the Army still owns & operates (& thus actively patrols, especially during munitions movements) & what property is either city-owned or basically in limbo & not really patrolled or worried about. The abandoned igloos should be empty & just have some stenciled signage on the walls. The weapons storage area that once stored nuclear weapons should stand-out due to having had a lot more physical & electronic security.
When I lived in the area, security patrols were monitorable via scanner radio...

| | | When I went, there wasn't a sign of another person. I did see today, when I drove by for work, a Military Police doing an active patrol of the area. He, or she, was driving a gray or light brown Lexus SUV with a sign on both sides that read "Military Police". So watch out out there! It's still hot!!!
