So a few notes before I post these photos. My scanner is a piece of shit that came with my computer, so that is what some of the artifacts on these photos are from. These are all developed and printed in my darkroom.

1.

Leica R3 + Leitz Vario-Elmar 35-70 3.5 + Ilford HP5 400.

2.

5.

Bronica ETRS + 105mm F2.5 + Neopan 100

6.

Leica III + Summar 50mm F2 + Really old TRI-X 400

7.

11.

Leica R3 + Leitz Vario-Elmar 35-70 3.5 + Ilford HP5 400. (The scanner really fucked this one up, I don't know why it added all those artifacts. Other than that what do you think?)

Any feedback is appreciated, thanks!

5,6,7,8,10 & 11. I like all of those. The other ones are meh. In my opinion. Just weird focus/ composition/ exposure issues.

But I'm happy to see film being developed at home! I have the set up to do it. Just haven't tried. Got the chems. And waiting to use the 20 rolls of b&w 110 film I have. Just am a little intimidating. So, these are inspiring.

4 makes me go, "hmmm, what's going on in there?"

6 is lulz.

11, even though everybody and their mom has done the long exposure highway shot, I still like em.

The rest, eh.

Those artifacts are dust on your film you will get them on any scanner. Make sure your negs and scanner are clean. You will inevitably end up with some dust witch you can then clone out in photoshop.

I am actually scanning prints here, my negative scanner gives weird color artifacts to the photos so I don't use it for black and white. When you look at the original prints I scanned from, none of those artifacts are on them.

Did you try wiping off the prints and blowing off the scanner and rescanning? I really think it is just dust.

There really is something different about film over digital.
This set could be used as very strong evidence to support this.

So i'm just pokeing around, are you gona do anything about it.

For me the strongest photo is 6 because the subject is interesting, the lighting is great and the composition is pretty good too. 5 is also not bad. There are too many of the rest to critique each one but they all could use a little help composition-wise. 1,2,3,7,8 and 11 don't interest me at all due to the subject matter just being sort of blah. Also, I agree with what's been said about the dust. I'd, clean, rescan then clone, clone, clone. Also, in Photoshop you could do alot to fix the issues with the flatness in tones. A simple levels/curves adjustment could bring out so many nice shadows.

I noticed immediately that all these shots have really good contrast for film. You did a really excellent job developing them.

That being said, a couple of them seem mundane. The compositions aren't bad, but I don't know why you're showing me these things. 7 and 9 are definitely the worst offenders for this.

3 and 4 have very weak compositions, I wouldn't have necessarily even made full sized prints of these. They're just kind of static/flat.

5 is pretty good. My only beef with it is that a lot of people have done black and white shots of punk kids, and I'd like you to tell me more about the subject. Right now it's just kind of like "Look at this guy with his patches and stuff. Just look at him."

I love the use of light and shadows in 1 and 6. 8 and 10 have some spectacular lines. I really like the repetition of shapes in 2.

11 is really well executed, but I see a lot of shots like that, and just using long exposure isn't enough to make a picture stand out.

I think 1 and 10 are the most solid overall, but there are a lot of strong points throughout the set. Film is a really tough medium and I definitely know I couldn't do anything near this good with it. Great set overall!

Not sure if you're familiar with the old saying "expose for shadows, develop for highlights" but the absolute beauty and wizardry of film is how much you can manipulate it. It can be done in photoshop now a days with a relatively decent exposure. But when I started learning this stuff as a kid, It blew my mind how much photographers were thinking 3 or 4 steps ahead to how a negative was going to print.....Here's a little on purposely exposing for the shadows.....

Interesting composition. Maybe its the scanning, but they all seem a little hazy/soft/washed out. Have you thought about using a yellow filter?

I really dig number 1. I like film photography, a lot of people don't realize its usually better quality than digital.

Also glad to see you (or your friend) has a good taste in punk. (#5)

Hey there all, thanks for all your feedback, I really appreciate it. I have been continuing developing my own film, but I seem to be having problems, all the film I develop is coming out very flat and grey. I haven't changed anything I am doing in the way I develop, but the grey in these photos is overwhelming, any ideas on what it might be?

Do the negatives look flat or just the prints?
You could have leaked light while developing.
I would just use a higher filter when printing.

It seems that the negatives are pretty grey as well, not as grey as the prints though.
