| | Abandoned lakefront property in the 'burbs < on 4/23/2012 7:10 PM >
| | | My first ever urban exploration was more of a suburban exploration. Stumbled upon this location while scouting for abandoned places near where I live. Did a few drive-by’s, studied it on Google Earth and crept in early on a Saturday morning. 1. Infiltration – I’m in! The initial penetration was scary, but lucky for me this place was not secured very tightly. 2. Now to make sure this place really is abandoned (had already made that mistake once today; but that is for another story….). How I knew no one was home: Yeah, I’m thinking these doors haven’t been opened in awhile. Huge pile of leaves in front of entrance. Clearly in the “Off” position. Date of disconnection: 2/5/10. Ok, now I’m confident no one has been here in awhile. I begin to relax and enjoy the adventure. 3. Outer views of some of the buildings on the property: Nature encroaches. Periodically this screen door would bang in the breeze and really freak me out. Rustic 70’s style. Kind of reminds me of camp. 4. This place has some really sweet lakefront views: Here you can see the water reflected in the windows, which almost look like the “eyes” of the house. This deck hasn’t seen a party in quite some time. Cool. Really a shame that our town wants to drill into this land to make a few bucks.* No way I was going to step on that thing. But I did take a lot of pictures of it for some reason. 5. Old shed: Outside Inside 6. Random stuff Dust & cobwebs galore. Glad I took my allergy meds today. Beware. Decomposing work glove. In conclusion: This place wasn’t all that exciting; didn’t find anything scandalous or frightening. Just lots of dust and crap. And abundant nature. Probably some old couple’s lake property. But it was a nice, tame initiation into urbexing. *Full story, more pics (including some shots of the inside), vague location info and background history to become available if I am granted permission to create a new location in the LDB.

| | | Sometimes suburban or even rural areas hold some of the best treasures. I love going through old houses that are abandoned, never know what your going to see. And sometimes the settings are awesome.

No. It was a knocked-down section of fence. Railroad tracks would have been a lot cooler, though!! Had such a fun time out here! Already scouring the area for my next excursion.... EDIT:Fixed quote [last edit 4/27/2012 5:59 PM by Opheliaism - edited 1 times]

Not sure; didn't have any way to check that out. But I'm guessing it would be fairly decent. There was a lot of cool wildlife in this little enclave.

Awww, okay. Now that you say that, that makes sense. Just thought possibly railroad tracks as some people like to do that outside of shops and what not. It would been really cool if they were though! Can't wait for your next post!

Heck yeah. Would be an awesome place to hang out. Trouble is, I’d feel kinda weird breaking into this place. Got a real “grandma’s house” vibe from it. Although the doorknobs were rusty and the doorframes very fragile, forced entry didn’t feel right. Looked very comfortable, albeit dusty, on the inside. Wonder why no one visits anymore?

The deck was….creaky. Seemed unstable. How do you feel about partying at “grandma’s house”? lol.

Nice. I’ll bring bug spray and s’mores. And tea for grandma, if she happens to show up.

| | | ...is a term I'd never heard of until just now. Thank God for Wikipedia, amirite?? Anywho, wonder if it applies to areas with "Private Property" and "No Trespassing" signs?
