| | | Hey guys. I could really use some constructive criticism on these. Both on composition/framing and sweet hdr skillz. I feel like some of you are going to be douches on purpose and that's ok just be a constructive douche ^_^ Shot these with a Canon Powershot sx150 #1

| | | HDR with a Canon Powershot?? lol. I don't know that I have seen that before! Nonetheless, the processing is not bad and nothing wrong with the comp on most of them. Some of the images are boring and maybe not "post worthy" but there's nothing you could have done differently to make them interesting photo's. Edit: Conclusion: Keep it up! Don't underestimate Powershots. Since I'm too poor for an SLR, I've used an SX130 and an A540 for every one of these HDRs: http://photodefect.co.cc JohnnySniper: Processing looks decent on some of these. 3 looks good. 11 looks bad. Seek out more captivating subjects. Also try shooting lower to the ground/higher up so your shots don't share the same perspective. And since you've got a Powershot, check this out: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK [last edit 4/21/2012 5:53 AM by defecto - edited 1 times]

| | | Actually they're not bad. Personally I use HDR to just make things look more detailed, I can't stand that imaginary lolipop land look...and I've realized it's when I fuckup the edge glow that it happens. Typically I turn the strength down as low as it goes [every time], put up the radius to a minimal amount, and do whatever I want with the detail [in moderation]. Edge glow is an asshole.

Hahaha nice man! I've seen some of those on here too. I would have never guessed! My first camera was an old powershot. I took it to Alberta and got some pictures that I still love from it. Before I knew what HDR was though. I just never thought it would be easy since P&S's don't give you much control over the exposure.

A lot of them don't, but several models actually have a manual mode.

Defecto I think it was you who recommended CHDK to me and ever since I've started using that I've had a lot more control over just about everything.

Do you have any advice about this? Sometimes the pictures I get are kind of hit-or-miss. And my tripod is broken right now and I can only keep it at either mid level or low level until I figure out how to fix it haha.

I agree with this about 80% percent of the time, but there are occasions where I like a little touch of fairy dust lol

It's great for long exposures at night. In fact, that's main and sometimes only thing I use it for.

Try focusing on what makes the scene interesting. #7 has all lines converging toward the center, and the windows on either side split the photo exactly in half -- giving it a straight forward boring look. The ceiling is dark and busy looking, but there's some cool sunlight on the ground. I bet if you chose a different angle and filled more of the frame with sunlight, it would be a more interesting image. #5 is doing the same thing, but my eyes aren't drawn to anything except the brightest part of the image, which is just busy looking windows in the center of the picture. #10 and #11 suffer for similar reasons. #3 works because the pillars demand attention without being in the center of the image. #1 looks like an scene that could improve with simplifying the shot. Boring looking trees are invading your space, but you've got a unique red cross on the wall. I bet if you pointed your camera directly at the wall, and lined that cross up with the intersecting grid lines in your viewfinder (once you turn those on), you could get a great looking minimalist shot of the cross, the door, and the left window. Or maybe the cross and both windows. #9 is alright, but you could probably improve it by simplifying the shot as well.

| | | I'm not going to comment on all but I do have something to say about 5, 6 and 7. The HDR processing you did killed the sense of depth. Everything seems almost flat, as if this was a shot of a painting. I also find them a bit over saturated, but that a matter of personal preference.
