(militairy) bunker

I am new at this forum and I haven't explored a lot of buildings yet, so I was wondering if anyone has any experience with infiltrating/exploring old abandoned bunkers. There is one quite near the place where I live, but I have no idea what to expect there.
For as far as I have found out I can say it is an old military bunker, possibly dating from WW1.
It won't be much of a problem to get there, but after that I have no idea what to expect. Any help would be welcome.

welcome to the forum! but the best advice i can give is dont think about what to expect just go! you will learn a lot more from going out and exploring then reading about it. of course use common sense and if you have a bad feeling about something dont do it.

It's safe to say your probably near the shore somewhere. Expect musty smelling air, damp concrete, rusty steel, camel crickets, and possibly asbestos if the bunker also had internal power (but usually that's mostly on WW2 types). They're usually worth an hour or two of exploring, depending on condition, size, and what the view is from outside. Where there's 1, there's usually more so looking up the location on google would probably be worth your while.

Only one way to find out! Just go do it!

and............. if your not the overly paranoid type and put on your profile where you are from...... you might end up with locals that can help you out. Especially on such a vague question!

Mmmmmmm, bunkers! What could be more fun?

Ordinance may be present, if so, DO NOT TOUCH!!! Get out.
Most HE primers get more sensitive with age and some explosives can stay viable for many decades even under water and long after their housings have corroded away.
Old black powder is notoriously unstable.
Unopened German bunkers may be (no joke) booby trapped.

Other than that, just use common sense. Bunkers are way cool.

Your security measures were inadequate.
How unfortunate for you.

There are two bunkers in our area that our off limits, however one is empty and the other is filled with office equipment. In both cases with a little research I was able to get the plans for these bunkers, so I new what to expect when I came to the layout. As always tell someone you trust where you are going and bring a friend.

Been around. Each one is different.
Military bunker says it all. Just depends who's it was, what it was used for, and what was left behind, missed, or not cleaned up.

And just how many German bunkers are actually still out there that have remained sealed for the last 60 + years? And sealed shut full of ordinance?

If you stumble across one of these booby trapped bunkers, just remember to replace the golden idol with a bag of rocks and sand of roughly the same weight.

Otherwise, run like hell so the big fucking rolling rock does not squish you.

Blah Blah Blah. Shut up and open the damn door.

You think the Germans gladly told the Allies the location of everything? Guess again. They lots of buried German WW2 relics to be found.

The German's where fond of the use of booby traps, and denying access to the *entrances* to their bunkers, tunnels, and underground aircraft hangars.

Any underground hangars the Allies found had their entrances blown up and sealed for fear of these booby traps, and more inside the planes these hangars housed.

"Shortly afterwards, the Americans discovered the hidden air base at Rothwesten, and according to the old-timers in the nearby town of Knickhagen, two Me-109’s still remained in its underground aircraft hangers during the time I was stationed at the base. Their story goes that after two demolition crews were lost trying to recover the famous planes amongst the booby-trapped tunnels, the entrances to the underground hangers were sealed up. Traces of the closures could still be observed during my tour in the 1960's."
