| | Power station gone but not forgotten < on 3/20/2012 4:20 PM >
| | | This was Methil power station on the east coast of Scotland till last year when the chimney was finally demolished always like the place from the minute we succeeded where many had fail to put their toes. This was a dirty little twin to another one on the west coast of the country but lasted longer Built in 1965 and decommissioned from the national power grid in 2000. originally run on Coal slurry which was cheap at the time but became to costly which lead to its demise in the late 90's. Running 2 x 30 MW turbines. The place was well guarded with some doors spot welded, never had a problem ourselves but quite a few got caught trying to access it even when the way up.
Our fist visit here was on the off chance after a busy day this was 5th stop for 3 off us on the way home that day. So we rolled up parked the car and head across to the place which was getting a bit dark by then but lit by big ass floodlights it was daunting I will admit. Undeterred me and my 2 partners just headed straight in. Even though it involved a lot of climbing crawling then going over top of the slurry bucket housing to go down and cross into the building we where ecstatic. Sadly all our torches had began to die and same went for the camera batteries, so we decided to pull resources for one camera 2 pics and left without giving the game away. We returned and spent the day in the first time and then took in some others with the last people we assisted being explorers from Belgium and Germany. This was a superb place to mooch they say they stripped it of asbestos but i find that highly unlikely from what i seen. will stick some pictures up hope you enjoy.
I have more but it gives you a idea of the place, hope you enjoyed.

| | | Great set/write-up! Nice to see another power station that is different from the usual few!
The Durango '95 purred away a real horrowshow - a nice, warm vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts. And soon it was trees and dark, my brothers, with real country dark. |
