A week in Wyoming
< on 10/4/2011 3:28 PM >

This an Atlas F Missile base that we didn't explore due to lack of time

Part of the Atlas D base that we did explore

More of the Atlas D - I find it surprising they have left the missile cradle in the launchers

Lots of racks in the old computer / server room in the control building

This isn't exactly urbex because we took the tour but it is still cool and quite decayed - Cell Block A at the former Wyoming State Penitentiary.

The gas chamber at former Wyoming State Penitentiary - yes we both had a seat in the gas chamber.

This mansion was built by one man over several years and yes he was apparently insane. Time constraints didn't allow us to explore it but from what I have seen from others the outside is impressive and the inside is empty.

This gold mine was quite impressive and for the most part very well sealed.

Another view of the gold mine.

This power plant looked amazing but unfortunately it was only a shell.

Inside the busted power plant

Japanese Internment Camp - don't worry Kowalski - no fun was had here

One can't go to Wyoming and now see Yellowstone - so here is Old Faithful

Good stuff I've seen some Atlas D sites but really want to make it in an Atlas F. Pretty cool to see the missile erector the ones I visited didn't have them.

Thanks; I am pretty sure that first one is sealed up and we were running out of daylight so we went to the Atlas D because we were sure there was something to see there.

nice stuff. I might hit you up about some of those places. I'm doing a photography project involving houses on the plains.

good finds. There seems to be a lot in Wyoming.

Aww you missed a great spot in Laramie. I love the Penitentiary btw, be sure to hit up the ghost tour if you're there in October.

Man, even as just a shell that power plant is calling to me. The penitentiary shot looks great as well - there's a similar tour over in Deer Lodge, MT I keep putting off, maybe I'll finally check it out.

Lots of really great finds here, thanks for sharing.

While I was there, a local told me he had fell to his death while constructing it. His family has chosen to leave it unfinished as a memorial to him.

That's interesting. All I had to go on was what people had put in flickr, so not exactly the best source. We were trying to see as much of Yellowstone as we could in one day so we passed it by. Plus I recall seeing photos of the interior and it was pretty empty. The best part is the outside.

But you at least saw the interior of the Old Faithful Inn. Please tell me you did.

Unfortunately we didn't. We were more interested in seeing some of the thermal pools and other natural things in the park. However one cannot see a park like that in a day. One day we will go back on more of a tourist trip to Yellowstone.

these are pretty easy to find by google... 'wyoming atlas silo' or something like that finds it within the first few links.

Anyone on this thread from/near Gillette, WY? My parents live there, I was planning on making a trip this summer to visit.
