I have on pretty good authority that they're going to be filming a movie at our favourite half-demolished school. Weird!

<edit> Got some more details - they're apparently filming "Todd and the book of pure evil" in mid June.

we went in there when there was a film production company in it, so it makes sense in an odd way

*Inserts comparison of how the imminent announcement of the NHL returning to Winnipeg felt*

I drove by another school in that same division and saw the doors were wide open and that a lot of vehicles were there. I went and checked it out and they told me to come back tmrw to take pictures. They are also filming a said movie in this school. So just like the "oh we know the Jets are coming back but just want them to make it official" announcement, I will keep everybody on their toes about what school I'm talking about ;)

aww, it's a really bad weekend for me. I can maybe make time Saturday night if you aren't busy?

It's Pride weekend, and I'm trying to get a talk ready for next week. Lots going on with me!

Drop me a line if you're up for something Saturday night.. if nothing else, I'd like to meet you! You can get my cell# from yield. I *might* be able to find time other evenings, gotta play it by ear though.

Unfortunately it was an uber busy weekend for me as well. A wedding and catching up with family took up most of my time. I was able to see R426 who gave me a tour of the infamous school but even then it was quite rushed. There will always be a next time to meet up

Understandable. I wouldn't have had time either.

Damn man! We forgot to check out the old Intermodular CNR yards by where the new IKEA is going in! I drove by there today and it looks like they're taking out like all 20 sidings. It was a surreal sight to see a vacant railyard of that magnitude!

The flood's coming from the west, up the assiniboine, and caused some problems in Brandon. They diverted a bunch of it, which flooded a couple hundred homes (I heard).

Meanwhile, Lake Manitoba is also flooding, and is destroying a bunch of homes/cottages along the eastern shore (Twin Lakes Beach, Laurentia Beach, Delta Beach, etc). They don't expect it to crest until June 15 and they don't expect it to be safe for some of the people to return home till like fall.

My dad's cottage has survived so far, but another strong western wind could make it bad. It's at Laurentia Beach, 3 or 4 cottages from the lake, and had about 3' of water outside of it. Fortunately, it's 2.5' off the ground, so they only got a couple inches inside.

His next door neighbour has a ground-level home there, which ended up full of water and mud and is probably unfixable.

A friend of his died of a heart attack while sandbagging, too. Super sad.

Oh no So sorry for his loss.
I hear you're getting 50 cm of rain added to lake Mb this weekend too or something like that (I really briefly caught bits of a news snippet yesterday) and they might have to make the decision again to flood hundreds more homes ? I'm not sure exactly what they were referring to but it's so sad to hear about I couldn't listen for long.

Anybody know what the yield is for the farmers this year compared to normal? I'm guessing like 0-10% for Mb.?
