Newly released Patents:
EF 24 f/2.8 USM This one has me as excited as the 11mm prime. There aren't any good 24mm USM primes for less than $1000. While the 24/2.8 is awesome for a weight/size ratio, cheap AFD motors suck. Optically a used tiltshift would be the best option, but has the same issue with a poor focus mechanism. Barring the $1600+ 24/1.4 II and almost equally expensive and optically inferior 24/1.4 mk I. http://www.canonru...patent-ef-24-f2-8/
EF 28 f/1.8 DO Diffractive Optics in a Normal/Wide focal length? I have no intention of buying this lens but this one will be a very popular portrait lens, especially among crop sensor users. http://www.canonru...28-f1-8-do-others/
Competition is good and might encourage Tokina/Sigma to make some competing third party lenses too. I can see Sigma releasing an 8-10mm rectilinear prime to compete with the 11/2 and upgrading their 30 prime to fight canon's new 28. I can see Tokina and Sigma releasing 24 macros to compete with the Canon 24mm.
