when i first met doodlebug- he was a mess. jumping and lunging at stuff (cats and ducks...) now ANYONE can walk him and he is a very well trained (for the most part) dog-as long as you treat him that way and take control of him. well now there is a new pup in the mix. i am doing my best to train her... but... "OMG YOUR HURTING HER!- SHE IS JUST A PUPPY!!!!"
is there a better time to to train them? and no, i am not hurting her, she is reacting to to me being "not happy" with her. i have not or will not hurt her, but i will grab her and pin her or smack her on the bum when she is out of line- as well as rubbing her nose in her pee on the rug.
i raised a few dogs. they have been good dogs, but from pups, they need to learn what is expected from them.
if you want good dogs, dont question the means as to how they get that way. they will be better dogs for that.... or call that guy on tv and watch him do the same thing i am doing...

The reason she pees on the rug is because she's not being let outside enough. For puppies, the general rule is that they can hold it for one hour per month they've been alive. Dogs don't WANT to pee where they sleep, but they have tiny bladders and can't help it.
You want your dog to be submissive to you, but you don't want it to fear you. Shoving her nose in her own excrement does just that.

"doodlebug" has always- as far as i have been here, gone out every hour of daylight on the hour.- i think he can tell time now. as for pup- i am seeing some form of "i want to go out side... but...i want to play!"- that is what i am working on- her life before "us" was "i can pee/poop- they will take it away.../clean it up"
doodlebug has been past that- he tries hard to teach that to her...but... she is just a pup. i have the highest hopes for pup- she is so smart... i hope i am smart enough for her! and "i" can only do what i know how to do...

i want a dog who is well trained. i never want a dog to fear me. but i also want a dog who is in control of him/her/self. i want my dogs to be self leaders/ good hunters and good house dogs. what good is a dog who wont/cant respond to a command?

case in point... gordy.
gordy is some kind of mutt. is less than 2 years old and has lived out side unleashed for most of it. from the first time i walked the 5 plus acres of land i live on now, this dog has guided me, nipped at my heels or just plain sat and barked at me if HE thought i was going the wrong way in the woods. when i walk down the road, he stays less than 3 feet from me. in tall grass he is first and very methodic in his steps. he has no training from me or his previous owners. i have just started to let him in the house over night, he is a good guard dog and stays off the bedand couch, plays nice with the little the one and the other dogs and does not pee in the house. if he needs to go outside, he is a face-licker if i am asleep, or he sits by the door and whines if we are up. he is by far the best dog i have known in a very long time.
gordy will be with me for many years i hope. and i dont have to teach him anything! (happy dance!)
