hands down... cats, they are so much more independent! why?: you don't have to walk them, you don't have to pick up their warm shit, you don't have to throw a stupid stick for them to fetch, and they don't need constant attention,
negative bonus: for dog lovers: men look like fags walking small dogs!
how you know you hate dogs?: when you just wanna punch a stupid "paris hilton- wannabe" for walking around the mall with shirts or coat on their stupid lil dog!
WINNER: Cats, you can lock this thread now!

I have both. Two cats, two dogs. There are advantages to both. And, shortcomings as well.
With cats, I love their independence. They're lovable on their own terms and that generally works for me. The downside is the litter box. No matter how clean you keep it or what litter you use, the smell is there. If you have cats or have friends that have cats, you know the smell I mean. I don't believe in de-clawing so there is damage to deal with. I don't care how many scratching posts you put in your home, they will always find the time to shred furniture, fresh drywall, carpet and trim.
I lied about dogs having shortcomings.
They have none. All they have have is pure and absolute love.

I prefer dogs.
Between farts, they don't smell as bad as cats. Although I hear cat farts are much worse than dog farts.
Cats can be downright nasty! One cat I knew would be at the top of the stairs and when you were walking up, would swipe at your face with claws out. And that's when she was in a good mood.
I don't hate cats. There are some cats that are owned by family and friends and they are really nice and sociable.

I love dogs and cats.. though as far as dogs go I prefer huskies and akitas, then the rest is kind of random preference. And cats are cats.. though I do love little domestic lynx and their awesomely fuzzy ears.. I only have a cat right now though.
