She just found out I was going to be exploring around East St. Louis... here's the conversation, for your enjoyment.

"Oh my God! You're going there? Why there? You're WHITE!"
"But mom, locals will be there... it'll be fine. You always panic whenever I go South..."
"You have NO idea what you're getting yourself into! It's a freaking* warzone!"
"I. Am. Meeting. Up. With. People."
"Are they Black?"
"No, probably not--I dunno..."
"Then don't go. There you are. That's why I think. I warned you!"

Sara's Dad similarly freaked out when he found out I was in East St Louis with Eli. "Sara, I can't tell you what to do, but be careful."

East St Louis is built up too much, I've never had a problem there.

lol in all the times we have been to E.Stl we have never had a problem. I am not saying one couldn't arise but we have never had one. Usually people just look at you like you are nuts or they do not care at all.

At least we didn't sign up for the education we can't get at Richmond U. That could have ended poorly.

Whenever I'm there I get stares, but I've never felt threatened. They probably assume that I'm a cop or I'm there to buy crack.

Let me tell you, crack isn't as easy to find as one would think.
