I have a DR myself, so I can really only speak for that. I love it. My first inclination was to get a XRL, but read they're way more dirt oriented, and KLR's are huge compared to the other two.

I'm not sure how off road you want to go... I've done single track type stuff on my DR. I had to gear the front sprocket down to make it more trail friendly, and it'll still cruise along at 65. I also did a Corbin seat... the stock one blows. A solid day of dirt roads on the stock seat will kill your ass.

My thoughts are it's a very simple machine that's a blast to ride. They're pretty affordable too, even brand new. Mines an '01 that I got in '07 for 2300. It still even had the stock trail wings on it which I traded out for Dunlop 606's.

I have the KLR featured in some of the previous pictures, and it's not a bad dual sport. I read a lot about a lot of the 650's on a lot of the different motorcycle forums out there, and you can find a ton of info on Advrider.com among many other specialized forums for different bikes.

For me, the KLR 650 is big (something around 420 lbs with a full tank), but not too big. I'm 6'4" and around 230 lbs, so I can sort of throw it around. They also make a KLR250 and a bike called the Supersherpa which have a lot of torque, but not nearly as much weight as the 650. Supersherpa has a 6th gear which is nice for winding that thing up the highway, but really it's not to hard to swap out sprockets to change between heavy woods riding, and then cruising home after the weekend is over.

You can really get a great deal on one now, since so many people are trying to sell theirs due to the crappy economy. One thing you're def going to want to look into is where your going to work on it, if you don't end up taking it to the dealership or a shop. They do require a decent amount of maint if your going to put the miles on them. I've put about 22,000 miles on mine in the past 2 years or so, and it's needed a couple new sets of tires, tubes, fluids, clutch cables, bulbs, bearings, not to mention I change my oil every 1,600 to 2,200 miles. Just something to think about if you live in an urban area.

Did you borrow that bike from your sister?

One of my bikes is a 1965 Harley Sportster. My Harley buddies act like I should paint it pink and give it too my wife..........

I've got a DT250, AT125, a Kawasaki TrailBoss 100, and a stepthru 50. All girl bikes, and I love 'um.

Hahaha, If I had a sister, I am sure that she would learn to ride on that DRZ lol. Once I am out of the nest and have some funds accumulated, I will probably wind up with a DRZ400 SM and a sportbike, or a Ducati Hypermotard. The hypermotard would fill the role of both the DRZ and sportbike.

The DR350 and DRZ/KLX400 put out about the same horsepower as the 650's so it's a matter of choosing revviness vs. torque. Haters gonna hate as far as the "girl bike" thing goes.

My wife wanted to try out my Bultaco Sherpa T a few years ago, she hadn't ridden in a few years. I figure it's just like ridin' a bicycle...........

Trials bikes turn so sharply, that as the throttle grip gets farther from your hand, the more the throttle twists, that and the fact that the brake is on the left(wrong side)

Well, Her and the bike ended up stuffed under her very own Honda Civic.......

Lucky for all, first gear is for climbing trees, so impact was only at 10 or 12 MPH.

She must not have been very talented during her previous experiences. Shouldn't she be able to jump over the civic when she saw the "oh shit" moment on the verge of happening? It's a trails bike...

She was already on her way down, front wheel in the air, one foot on the ground, with the throttle gettin' further away by the second, she did have the front brake locked. It was the only brake in the right place. And when that front tire hit the ground locked, thats when she went under the car. Wish I had a camera......

I've done the very same move more times than I can count, and at a much higher velocity, thereby making impact all the more memorable.......

Cafe Honda huh? I got a buddy in Venice CA that is an expert with Cafe style old Hondas..........Hes got a garage full of bikes. I'll try to find his website if you want.
