petsploring!
< on 11/10/2008 7:34 PM >

Me and Atlas at an abandoned state hospital last night!

He was so great! I was very proud of him. Every building we went in, he remembered exactly how to get out. One building we had to carry him through a window but on the way out he hopped right onto the side and tried to do it himself (I didn't let him because I thought he would hurt himself jumping down).
Whenever the security car came around he knew before we did and stopped walking to listen, it was awesome.

Exploring with my dog was definitely awesome, the only down side was having to take "the long way" sometimes to avoid areas with any broken glass or debris - the pic with the paint chips here was as bad is it got, we really stuck only to buildings with clean/safe floors.

I am so psyched I plan to bring him along elsewhere, when safe of course. I'd love to get him those booties but I have a feeling he's not going to be a big fan of that.

Very cool! I would love to have a 'lookout' such as that. I hope you guys have lots of fun together. The rest of us with non-exploring pets will just have to watch your adventures

I usually let my pooch go first to make shure the floor is safe.

I can picture the dog saying "Sure it's safe. C'mon through!".

I wouldn't take Poppy as she really loves to play and could get hurt.

I had Roxie out exploring with me today. She is proving to be an excellent exploring partner. Thanks for hooking us up, Sara!

Mr Musik wins the prize for Post that Made Me The Happiest.

Roxie looks so happy!!! Yay!!! My heart's all warm now.

You just need a deaf pit bull now, and your life will be complete.

There you go, I fixed your post for you. ;)

I don't know about adding a deaf pit bull... even as cute as he is.

This is what Roxie is doing now after a big day of exploring...

I need to get her up and in the tub for a bath. I'm going to be "Mr. Popular"...

Good luck with that, man. At least she doesn't scream the entire bath like Killdozer used to.

Cool dog!
I hope you have better luck with those booties than I did. I bought a pair for my dog, due to the same concerns you have about broken glass and such. My dog hated them though. It was a chore to get them on and then she would constantly try to get them off. I took her exploring without them and she was fine, even walking through broken glass. She has more problems with snow packing in between her toes and freezing.

shane_fromva, that picture of your dog and the goat is awesome!

Say, does your dog shoot laser beams from his eyes?

Beautiful dog you have there.

I've taken the hounds with me a couple of times but there's just too much trouble they could get in to. Between the broken glass, sharp objects, pigeon poop and who knows what else on the floors I think I'll just leave them home. Did I mention that hounds are very good watch dogs? Yeah, they start howling at any sign of security or other person they see. Howling is not a good thing when trying for stealth.

The first place we went Ruby immediately found a dead bird that really looked tasty and started to chew on it. She just wouldn't give it up and I had to wrestle her for it to get it away. Last winter we were out near an old pool and the two of them were playing and running in the snow around the edge of the pool. Both almost went over the edge a couple of times. In my case, taking the dogs sploring is too much like having young children with you that need constant supervision.

This is the truth. Having the dog along is great, unless you are trying to do something like take pictures. We were on the third floor of the local abandoned children's hospital and I let my dog wander off and do her thing. Next thing I know she is wandering around outside.

Cool looking hounds btw!
