Cutting through wire

There's a site I've wanted to get into for a few months now. There seems to be no security there, just a big fence in the way.

To cut a long story short, I pulled open one metal slat of the fence, but to get it open I'd need to cut a wire. The wire is about the thickness of a standard chain-link fence. Probably just a snip at the top and a snip at the bottom and I'd be in, and the fence could be moved back to hide the entrance.

Would this be considered unethical to urban explorers? I'm aware of the law and know the risks, but I'm more concerned about what people here think.

Also, what kind of tool would be best to cut through that wire? I'd appreciate a picture of it rather than its name, as I'd have to get it at a Korean hardware store and the name would be useless. I already tried with standard pliers and they were too weak.

Bolt cutters, or a cutting torch. But, we all frown on damage/ destruction to gain entry.

Thanks, that's what I was wondering about. I wasn't sure if clipping a couple wires crosses the line. And there's no way I'm bringing a pair of bolt cutters there, as it's inside the city.

Permission? I was asking about how ethical it was. I'm still not sure if two snips would cound as damage or destruction, but my gut says find a better way, and I'm pretty sure that makes it breaking and entry.

Instead of cutting, why not consider something like this?

I'm sure you could bend some rebar into a similar shape and have a low cost fence ascender.

The main problem is I can't do anything too intrusive because there is a decent amount of traffic on this road. It's not extremely busy, but ladders would probably be noticed.

Here's a closer look at what the fence is like in most areas. There's one part where I can climb on top of a shed that's almost as high as the metal fence, and I could slash through the net and easily get inside. The problem might be getting out.

Try to find another way in. But if worst come to worst then see about cutting the fence; at least it isn't really part of the site it's self.

What is their gate like? With a building that size they have to bring in heavy equipment and steel.

That fence doesn't look that high, you can't climb it?

A high visibility vest and a hardhat work wonders for getting into sites like this too. When you look like a construction worker, nobody cares. I once walked into a multi-million dollar, high profile skyscraper project at 3am in front of two cops, and they looked at my hardhat and florescent yellow vest and didn't think twice.

lastly, not all entrances are above ground. Look at manholes immediately adjacent to the building.

High Ves and a hardhat should be in your tool kit always in a construction project. I have walked in a few places with them and no one bat's a eye. Note that a shiny new hard hat does stand out.

I dont frown on fence cutting. People who do shouldnt use holes other people have cut because they are just encouraging more fence cutting.

How does using a preformed hole encourage more holes to be made? It's not likely that he's sitting there saying "I wish this fence was cut so I could go in"

Im saying its bullshit it say "cutting holes in this fence is bad" then go use a hole somebody cut. Same with "Cutting locks off doors is bad" then go in a door somebody busted to lock off of. Without people going around making entrances everybody with a "holier than thou" attitude wouldnt be getting in alot of places.

If people can't figure out a way in w/o vandalizing / using others vandalism, then they don't deserve to get in. There's no inherent right to explore these things. It's a privilege earned by figuring out a way in, not given by some supreme god of explorers to all.

Sometime cutting a lock or snipping a fence are the only real ways in. Cant go over a fence that has razor wire up top and cant dig through the concrete its embedded in. Same way your not going to be able to ninja your way into an bared prison window. Who is to say you dont earn your right in by snipping the corner of a fence? You sure did work and risked a nice charge to do it, not only that but other explorers can utilize this to explore the location. Not everybody can dig under a fence then climb a pipe two stories to an opened window at 4am so nobody sees you.
