Posted by tribeachpunk No idea. Hopefully by summer's end. |
Posted by Urbandweller Cool, I know of a few boats that go over..around $10 or $20... |
Posted by tribeachpunk I have friend's who've been over. There is a guy who goes by "___ Beard" ... Red Beard, maybe.. It's ~$15 round-trip. |
Posted by sonikgirl it only takes like an hour or so to walk the length of the island.. it wouldn't be hard if you wanted to crash in one of the ruins, but i'm not sure why you'd want to. |
Posted by reduxzero You can cover everything on the island with the space of a summer's day, if you start early and walk fast. I recommend staying to the beaten paths(road) when possible, because bush-bashing slows you down a lot and can be navigationally confusing and very scratchy. |
Posted by sonikgirl the bugs will eat you alive, man! bring a tent just in case, it's pretty damp, and dirty, moldy and gross in those places. can't imagine the air quality would be too good either.. |
Posted by tribeachpunk I've heard the rules for camping on McNabs have changed recently after a death on the island. I was told camping could only take place at one specific spot on the island and this spot was quite far away from all there is to see on the island. And NO fires at all?? I had hoped (and probably still will) to sleep inside one of the buildings out there but the new rules say different.. |

Posted by hfx_chris Every time I've been inside the forts, it's always been damp and mouldy. There's always been puddles or pools of water, and the air is always heavy and stagnant. Why anyone would consider camping in those conditions is beyond me.. There's plenty of good places to camp on the island, but the only sanctioned camping spot, and the only place I've ever camped, is at the old tea house building site. Good camping spot, and only a ~30 minute walk in each direction to Fort McNab and Fort Ives, Strawberry Battery, the old rifle range, etc. Wind wouldn't be a problem there, as it's a well sheltered location in the woods. |
Posted by sonikgirl i don't know if the pedophile thing is true.. but what has been reported, is 3 guys went out camping, got really drunk, and one was found dead near the shore. alcohol poisioning. i'm pretty sure there was no indication he was sexually assaulted. |
