Entry: Geocaching
originally posted by natxtron

Geocaching is a form of treasure hunting that involves using a gps to locate a hidden item by it's coordinates, typically listed on a geocaching website such as http://www.geocaching.com/

Geocaching, while not directly ue related, uses many of the same techniques and often times may present the same dangers and obstacles. The hobby began in May of 2000 and has grown very quickly due to it's reliance on the internet as a place to post cache coordinates for others to search. Geocaching is practiced by almost all ages, ranging from simple caches to much more difficult finds.

While the rules, or "ethics" of caching are very simple, the real adventure of caching is to make the find very difficult. Some instances of caching have been known to require climbing gear, team cooperation, and even chem suites. Basically, the harder it is to get to, the better. The most common cache is a logbook or registry.

The rules of caching are:
- Take something from the cache.
- Place something in the cache.
- Record the found cache online.
Obviously, there are more ethics that go along with caching than these basic rules. Not so surprising, the most highly regarded motto is that of the Sierra Club and "Leave no trace." More detailed information can be found at numerous cache sites online, such as http://www.terracaching.com/
