The lift tower is the part of a mining site that extends two or more stories above the main mine shaft and is used to raise and lower equipment and workers out of/into the underground mining tunnels. Not all mining sites have lift towers as there are numerous ways to extract minerals and metals from locations. However, the presence of a lift tower is the most visible indicator of the presence of an underground mining operation and surrounding processing buildings. edit: commonly referred to as a Headframe |
