| A Russia-based group of drainers formed by Vadim Mikhailov in 1990. Mikhailov and his fellow explorers are said to be the kings of the underworld in Moscow. While the group first began as a light hobby, they soon discovered that Moscow alone has as many as 7 to 12 layers of subterranean architecture. They have found many sites thought only to be legend such as Stalin's "Metro-2" subway system in 1994. A tunnel network denied by Stalin that would enable him and his officials the ability to evacuate the city quickly. In 1996, the group becomes officially registered with the government, who, Vadim Mikhailov claims, hates him because "I know more about the underground than they do." Vadim Mikhailov is a bit of a celebrity in Moscow, having appeared in many Russian TV shows, Russian Playboy, and CNN. The Diggers' most recent and famous exploits include the assisted rescue of 922 hostages from the Moscow Theatre by leading authorities in through a little known underground passage. It has also been said however that the diggers themselves have stranglehold upon underground exploration, as given that they have government approval, they have a lot of weight and have been known for elitism in regards to other explorers not involved directly with them.  *Picture taken from Outside Magazine* *I wouldn't know about any of this without the help of Infiltration. Thank you Ninjalicious.* But among the russian diggers, he has the reputation of a clown seaking fame, trying to use every chance to get into the news with reports saying that Moscow's building will sure fall underground, that three-meter rats roam the Moscow Metro, etc. In the 90's he had a series of newspaper interviews explaining where to get in in different underground communications. He even invited the city mayor, U. Luzhkov, to one of his "urban trips". Of course, it was followed by laws, forbidding to open hatches. So diggers caught by cops may be fined, thank Vadim! |
