All of that block of Store Street was levelled when the Johnston Street Bridge intersection was redone. Those buildings would have sat where the grassy area adjacent to the paid parking was, along with the paved connector between Store and Wharf Streets.

Yeah Tanuki, it's probably still there. Maybe they use it for a telecommunications closet now. I haven't had a chance to walk by and closly inspect the area. I always feel like everybodies watching me when I stand there staring at manholes! haha

Not that far over - the Chinese Theatre in the map would be directly between the Market Square buildings and the Johnston Street Bridge. Put it this way - if you stood in front of Market Square, and looked at the bridge, you would pretty much have been looking at the theatre. The Janion Hotel was one of a line of buildings that continued along store street towards Johnston. Those were all taken down sometime in the mid-20th century.

That's the idea: tourists researching our own city.

Regarding the cisterns, have you guys tried searching for old fire insurance maps online? Punching "Victoria fire insurance map" into Google turns up a veritable crapload of them.

Sorry if I'm being overly obvious.

How do you expect to blend in? You gotta get into it. Otherwise, what else are you going to wear? A fedora?

Sweeeet! Great P.S. improvements. When you meet K.K., and you will meet him, you will be amazed how much he resembles the guy in the second poster.

I should have been more clear, I was referring to personality 60% image 30%
That actor was the teacher in Clueless, starring *sigh* Alica Silverstone.

Another funny film, with a bit of a UE angle, is Blast from the Past, also starring *sigh* Alica. She's just so squeaky and cute. :) Sorry, where was I ?

It's an older film, hilarious at times, y'all have probably seen it. Christopher Walken, awesome actor, as were they all it that, imho. And YW. ca? hey that could work for ya? (Were all good Christians on this thread, I mean, except K.K. of course!) And if anyone believes that, I have some good cheap marshland for sale. Well, I'm glad it was only water, and not, say PEA SOUP!, that you were ingesting, when you cleaned your screen. :) I wonder where poor little abused (rich and famous) Linda Blair is today?

Here's a sequence of photos to cheer up Surekill: This was the the art deco Georgia Medical Dental building in Vancouver. Designed by the same architect as the Marine Building, but not to the same level of quality.

Still, an awesome heritage building. We all fought to save it, but lost to an 'off shore' interest, who wanted to build a monument to himself. Rich Daddy funding you know. Ironically? the new building has some details of the old, and resembles it, just taller. Sorry I ranted about this somewhere else.

Some of us 'social engineered' (that's Margaret Atwood speak for: asked permission) to watch from a balcony on the Hotel Van. It was spectacular, and quick. Some people smoked afterwards. I didn't. But did go back at night, and stuff some beefy chunks of Terra Cotta™ details into my old Subaru. They are in my yard now. Luckily, the 3 Terra Cotta™, (I think that means 'all weather plaster' in Spanish) nurses were saved. They are now on the new building, in plastic or fiberglass reproductions. The real ones are hidden somewhere. If you want to know their nicknames, I will tell you.

View from bottom up, I know, like, you knew that. It's a contact sheet, not a film strip.
