I saw a post a page or two ago that mentioned tunnels in the Union Club. I'm wondering if this is the Union Hall on Esquimalt Road, just down the street from the Bingo Hall and A&W. I live just down Dominion Street from there, and have been into the Union Hall a few times because I know someone who works there. If I had a little more info on the tunnel, I could probably validate whether or not this tunnel exists, indefinitely.

No.

The Union Club is downtown.

What do people think about a general UE-Victoria meet.

Great idea; there's probably at least SIX of us. Why don't we meet in the lobby of the Janion Hotel, on June 6 at high noon...

If the Satanist are going to give us a sign, or a peek at their lair, sureley that will be the day 6/6/06

Seriously tho, a great idea, and that day certainly works for me and I suspect is a special day for K.K.?

Cheers,

A.

I'll be busy sacrificing virgins, but I'll pencil it in now and hope for the best.

[EDIT: and please stop with those fucking smiley face things. Look around...there's NOTHING to smile about]

Hmm, well, there's no Starbucks in the Janion, that's something to smile about. I'm still learning smilies and agree they should be used sparingly, -or as an obscene parody. Was trying for the cool one with it's yeller tung stiking out, but got the dumb one. I'll not practice on this thread no more. Anyone know if there's a Smily 101 course or where to see the choices?

I wish I was a member so bad, just like the Tin Man wished for a brain sorreeee! Come to thikn of it, one of them would be handy too...

In that awesome film, American Beauty, they even had a Smiley Fast Food joint, with Smiley fries! But this thread is about tunnels, so yeah.

That tunnel (started)? at the foot of Fort Street, and somehow cut over to Yates. The fellow who told me this said it went as far as Birks, (now gone Postal), and then there was a locked gate. Seems like a likely place for a gate, what with the value of jewels and all. (That building has either been replaced or extensively renovated, -who knows what happened to the basement).

This is less than half a block from the Odeon Theatre, and that empty lot with the mysterious grate, found by two local explorers -who know who they are.

Nearby is the Odd Fellows building. I recently asked about a basement, and was told that building is on a crawlspace, an extremely low almost non existent crawlspace. I'll be able to confirm this soon, by seeing it, but have no reason to doubt the source.

It sounds like the tunnel runs/ran under the middle of Fort and maybe Yates as well, or 'nearby'. I strongly suspect, (and hope) only the entrance was blocked, meaning there may be ways in along the way.

Are we closing in on something solid?, or is this elusive mystery just giving us enough clues to keep 'The King' of threads going to the year 2525?

Exploring weather is here...

A.

Some sketchy lookin fella was hanging around the parking lot near Capital Iron this afternoon, all wrapped up in dirty denim and such, and his hands were kinda scabby and red, and he looked like he'd been gnawed by rats, and when I approached him, he bared his teeth and they were brown and rotty and when I got closer, his eyes looked like they'd been wired to a 10,000 volt electrical thingy and I considered (briefly) the possibility of avoiding a confrontation with him, but then he smiled and held out his hand but then pulled it back at the last minute.

"I know you," he said to me.

"Is that right?"

"Yeah. I spoke to you a few months ago. You asked me something about a cave."

"Really? I don't remember."

"You want to know something else?"

"Sure."

"I was with a friend the other day and we popped this drain cover and climbed down. And when we hit bottom, we walked a bit and found this big room. And there were doors everywhere."

"Where is this?"

"Hareld St. Near the parking lot."

And then I remembered a long ago conversation I had with some young woman, similarly scabby and sketchy. She told me a similar story. So now I have two separate versions of a similar story.

I wonder...

I know...sounds dubious. A lot of the folks I talk to are quite fucked up on meth/other hard drugs, so I always take their stories with a grain of salt.

Which isn't to say I dismiss them entirely. Not at all. In fact, I'd wager that most of the stories I've posted on this thread from this community are pretty fantastic and far out and not completely true or based on fact.

What I find interesting, however, is that different people tell similar stories months apart. It seems...it doesn't seem...it simply IS a fact that there are some fantastic stories about these tunnels, and the drug addicts who now seem so obvious in the downtown core tell versions that are not completely dis-similar to one another.

Which is of particular interest to me in that meth heads can barely remember where they put their shoes five minutes earlier. To racall in vivid detail a story about a tunnel/cult/etc. is quite fascinating.

As for this guy, the latest version of the Harald St. tunnel, his story was pretty close to the story told to me months earlier by another meth-head. And both these versions are similar to something I heard years ago, and then later confirmed (more or less) by a business owner from that immediate area.

Remember the furniture store owner telling me about the coal shutes? Same area, same block of buildings.

So while surekill may laugh, I put these pieces together and stand back for a good long look.

It is possible, and quite likely that these addicts have gotten high many many times in these locations that they recall to you. Giving them perhaps a collective memory of these locations? If there is a common place to get high, which is usually the case, they will recall it in a similar way? N.

Good point. If a couple of people can agree that Point X is a good, safe place to get high, chances are they'll be return visitors.

For a man who doesn't indulge and is terrified of Oreos, thats a remarkable assessment N.

I wasn't laughing, I was just thinking about The Penguin and his underground horde. If I had a batmobile I'd be in it, all the time.

It was just some humour. We here on the island don't get involved with or support UE meets.

Peace out.

Just kidding. Mm since there is not a very large exploration community, I don't think it would be necessary. Most serious explorers here know eachother already or have met previously or something. Maybe in the future.

Plus, we've had a few before, by the end of the night they usually end with Kubla having a few too many, taking off his shirt, tying it around his forehead, then attempting to initiate a breakdancing competition in the middle of Starbucks.....

And we DON'T need another one of those.

That was Tanuki. And it wasn't his shirt. It was his thong.

I just took the pictures.

It was an attempt at humor but serious all the same. A suggested date based on J.P.'s question: What do people think about a general UE-Victoria meet.

If anyone else is interested, let's do it. I missed the thong party, (Thank God) but if we meet mid afternoon there may be slightly less chance of alcohol being the main focus. How about meeting on June 6th in the afternoon at the Solstice Cafe around 2:00? Or if people prefer the evening or weekend, cool, whatever is best.

Then we can get caffienated and storm the Janion, or even better go explore the Roundhouse. After exploring we could go for a pint...or a Barqs.

Whatever people are into, but the 666 is a special day...maybe even the perfect day for a UE meet in Victoria...

A.

I think we should meet June 21st, at 12:23 at the Solstice Cafe. Now that would be an event of astronomical proportions!

Great idea, and likely better Karma than all that Satanist stuff. Although I've never met a Satanist, so am not the best judge of their table manners.

And if there are security concerns, prolly wasn't so bright of me to suggest where we go on this thread. The idea though was to check the site from a heritage preservationist angle. And that truly is my interest for that place. Harmless observers who would like to see this amazing rare building saved!

Years ago the police got an early morning call from an upper Fort Street resident, (Oak Bay border). They claimed there was a man in the middle of Fort Street with a Bazooka or something similar on a stand.

Turned out to be a photographer with a super sized telephoto lens on a tripod... Only in Victoria, indeed.

How is that info relevant to this post? Not very, I just wanted to make you smile, and suggest that some minor security of plans might be needed, so not to get a Faulty Towers episode started. There's always PM-ing for specific details.

Don't be so sure.

Whatever location you decide to visit, I'd recommend exercising extreme caution. Tourist season is ramping up to its usual voltage, and that means that The Proper Authorities are on hyper-alert status re: suspicious persons/places of interest.

If you're thinking about some of the sealed buildings along Store St., think again.
