Entry: Emergency key
originally posted by SaraBellum

A hotel with older magnetic-card locks will have one of these, located either behind the front desk or in the maintenance/engineering department, usually in a glass case similar to those that hold fire extinguishers. It's used to open the doors in the case of an emergency. It looks like a key that's been cut in half. One would use this key to override the electronic lock and the deadbolt by sliding it into the keyhole at the bottom of the lock. One must turn the key several (more than ten) times before the door opens.
