Calgary Urbex Community
< on 1/29/2022 11:31 PM >

Hey guys my name is Invicta and I'm trying to see if there's anyone left in Calgary or around Alberta that still does urban exploring. Also if anyone knows of a more active site, I'd love to know about it. Anyways I'm always down to meet up to climb and explore.

This is the site, this is the activity. XD

You may find slightly more success rubbing shoulders across Alberta; a good portion of the good folks I've met are actually from YEG.

Do you have any current / past exploits or explores to share?

Well, there was an old magnesium powerplant in Aldersyde, it was so sick, but I went back to find they have tried (and failed) to keep us out by blocking the doors. I mostly hit cranes downtown and construction buildings, because Alberta has next to no abandoned places left. I do know of 1 single abandoned house on the bow river left, it's kinda small and smells of shit

You mean this magnesium plant? :P

Last I heard, it's owned by TransCanada. See also, this post

Finally, one of my fav pics I've ever taken (it's printed 30" and hung above my bed, no joke). It's high quality and this thumbnail does not do it justice

Yup, that's the one right there. Always gotta downgrade the image quality by so much to upload on this site. Tried to hit a vertical crane last night for some sick footage, but instead got a nice fine for trespassing

This is the only photo I got unfortunately, cop vans came very very fast, was probably seen by the apartment adjacent to the crane

Wow that's super unlucky! Cranes are always huge exposure. Possible there were cameras around, too.

How bad is the fine? Definitely gotta fight that

$600 I'll probably go to try and contest in next month cause that's so much money for just trespassing. But I got the whole thing on video so I guess it is actually good footage

Welcome back

Lots going on in the city right now with impending LRT, tons of construction around the edges, renewals downtown, and little industrial pockets getting left alone for months at a time

Another YYC explorer here! Nice to see some activity from people here, I have an incredibly hard time finding anyone to explore with, and rarely get the motivation to go completely alone!

Huge fan of rooftops and exploring buildings, but no longer work as a tradesman and therefore no longer get free access...

I'd love to do some more exploring with the locals!

Thanks. I went to that mag plant last night to try my luck. Half the place is powered and there is security on site. Had my bro-in-law with me. Didn't want to risk it with him there. In laws would never forgive if we got caught hahaha.

Guess I'll have to drive around the city to scout out another spot. Happy to trade some spots if anyone wants to PM me.

Forgot about this website. Oops. But if anyone ever wants to try to hit roofs of skyscrapers downtown, I'd be down to try it out. I've tried once or twice, but the roof hatch it usually locked. You just have to get lucky and pray it's unlocked, and that's assuming there are no alarms or cameras also.

The rooftop of the old AGT tower can be accessed from the north stairwell. Just a regular padlock securing it. No cameras in the stairwell or on the rooftop.

A whopping 4-story building?

There was a small group here fifteen years ago. I went on a few outings with them, but they were fizzling out when I joined. I am down for some meetups and some infing as the weather improves.

I posted about this in its own thread, but I am looking to do Viscount Bennett when it warms up a tad. Admittedly, I've never done any exploration on my own. Not sure if groups are recommended and if so, max size to avoid drawing attention/cops?

Hello fellow explorers,

Have any of you guys heard anything about the Inglewood Brewery? Thing has been abandoned for like 20 years and I was wondering if anybody has gotten in or tried?

Hey everyone!

I recently moved to Alberta back in the summertime and would love to get together and explore sometime! I did a bunch of free-climbing as a kid but its been a few years and I want to get back into it. Roof topping is something that I am very interested in trying. Cranes also look cool to check out!
