Gilman

Does anyone know much about the town of Gilman? I found it looking through the superfund sites. It looks entirely vacant on maps. I was considering a trip over there from Denver.

Not likely anyone is going to reply with how to get in, but I will say this: Parking on Hwy 24 and strolling right in is a sure fire way to get caught. Should you figure out a better plan, stay out of view of the highway. Locals watch this place like a hawk and will call the law. You can bet on getting charged. Be smart and be careful!

I figured as much, there's a trail that's like a 1 mile away I was considering parking at. Getting in shouldn't be too hard. My main worry is getting spotted on the way to it. there's a creek down below I'm considering. Also, the trail that gives a view of Gilman is a worry as well.

This. I've had to hide from the deputies before, good thing they were busy with some dickweeds who were smashing shit and throwing things around in the general store. There's a better parking spot north of the town, but I've even seen the cops get wise to folks parked near there. The best parking spots require a hike.

It's worth the effort. My first trip was in '06, I think - it was way less trashed back then. Despite the vandalism, it's still a place that really has no equal. There's literally dozens of abandoned, historic structures in remarkable shape for the location. I'd say it's probably one of my favorite places on Earth, not gonna lie. And don't even get me started on Belden. There's a lot more hidden inside Battle Mountain.

I took a trip out to Gilman in June. I parked on the west side of the canyon near the camping area and hiked down to cross the railroad bridge and get into the lower mine area. It is quite a hike so be prepared, and watch out for the game cam on the way in on a telephone pole. DM me for a detailed map.

On my way home from Denver today. Spent a day and a half in Gilman. Could’ve spent another day or so, there was not much to see, but I had other places I wanted to go. Status is unknown but super fun signage remains. Ran into one other person.
Parked outside the top gate on day one and outside the bottom gate on day two. Exceptionally easy to get in you just walk around the gates. Certainly doesn’t strike me as a place they are intend on keeping us out of.

Why would you tell people not to go? It’s a great explore, easy in/easy out and it would appear it’s not being monitored. I was in there for hours on 2 different days.
If you’re saying don’t go, provide a reason.
