Fire & Rescue Training HQ
< on 8/12/2021 8:56 AM >

This large site in the central area of the UK has a pretty interesting history beyond that of the county headquarters of a fire & rescue service. The old manor house was built in the late 1890s, and it was sold in the 1930s to a wallpaper manufacturer. During the Second World War the outbuildings were converted into a decontamination centre in preparation for poison gas attacks, and then in the 1950s the site was sold to Rolls Royce who based their nuclear program there. A couple of decades later it was sold on to the county council who used it as their fire & rescue HQ until it moved to another site across the county a couple of years ago.

The site is made up of half a dozen or so buildings - the manor house, plus others that range in age from the 1950s up to the 1980s and are in varying conditions of disrepair and include a couple of office buildings, a sports hall, cafeteria and maintenance/plant rooms. The power is still connected throughout the site which is a strange and worrying contrast to how damp and decayed some areas are.

Super interesting history. Definitely wouldn't have expected any of those things to move in there. Nice set.

I love the look of this place. It somehow looks very old and modern at the same time.

The t-shirts on top of the shelf in photo 15 look like it has the same logo as in the picture frame of photo 17. Plus the giant emblem on the floor in the very last picture looks the same as the t-shirts and picture frame. Wonder if its worth salvaging those and trying to give them back to the local fire service brigade (where ever they may be located now). Fire buffs and active duty guys love t-shirts and emblems... R426 is another fire guy like me, I'll send this thread link over to them.
