Croydon Lodge was built in 1763 by a British army major. It was inhabited by a succession of people and was bought by a developer in 2011, who promptly died. The house fell into disrepair and in 2013 was set a blaze by arsonists, one of which was a volunteer firefighter. Fortunately the fire didn't do a whole lot of damage, I'm sure the fact that the house was made out of stone and brick helped.
A few years ago the property was purchased with the intent of remodeling it and moving in. I can see their vision, this place would be spectacular. They had started work but didn't get too far, it looked like no one had been there in a while. They certainly made a big investment though, not only in the property, but also the material like all new windows.
I found a good spot to park and stealth hiked, approaching the building from the back. It's on a semi-busy road so it was a little iffy, but I quickly found the basement entrance. Someone had already kicked it in enough for me to squeeze through.
The back of the building
A satisfyingly creepy basement
First floor, a lot of tools and stuff for remodeling. Also some newer furniture, looks like they really were planning on moving in. You can see the fire damage in some places.
